Age 89; born Bobby McCardle in Harvey, IL and grew up on Chicago's south side; attended Hirsch H.S. and joined ROTC; joined the U.S. Army Air Force prior to WWII, held ranks from PFC to Drill Sergeant to 2nd Lieutenant, stationed at Chanute Airfield in Rantoul, IL and trained men in Armored Tank Corp; graduate of Northwestern U.'s Medill School of Journalism; career in network television sales in New York but his family lived in Winnetka; left televison to work in radio as general sales manager at ABC's rock station WLS in Chicago, general manager for all-news station WNUS and an all-jazz station in Arlington Heights; president of Skokie Valley and Chicago Skating Clubs in the 70's, helped Winnetka start its recycling program, member of Evanston Bike Club; moved to Ashville, NC in 2003; preceded in death by his first wife, Ann and daughter, Ann Williams (Piji)
