Residence: 545 Graceland, Des Plaines. A member of one of the oldest Glenview families and an early settler in the village.
Died: Sept 29, 1971, in Lutheran General Hospital.
Parents: the late Herman Rugen, who farmed land which is now part of the Glenview Naval Air Station. The original Rugen farmhouse is currently being used as officers' quarters at the base.
Rugen had his own farm at what is now the area around Rt. 58 and Shermer Ave. In the late 1920's he sold the land and settled in Des Plaines.
Employment: He was affiliated with the Des Plaines Post Office before retiring about 8 years ago.
George was the last surviving member of the immediate Rugen family. His death was preceded recently by the death of his aunt, Louise Huebner Rugen, and a cousin, Myrtle L. Rugen, both longtime village residents.
Survived by: Sixteen nephews and nieces, three of whom live in California, and the remaining 13 in Northbrook, Deerfield, Arlington Heights and Glenview.
Funeral: Friday by Rev. H. J. Barth of St. Peters United Church of Christ, the church where Rugen had been confirmed as a young boy. Services at the Scott Funeral Home Glenview Chapel.
Cemetery: Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines. - Date of Publication
