Raised in Fairdale, Ill., and later attended business college. After serving in a finance section of the Army for 3 1/2 years during World War II, he worked 18 years as an accountant for Walgreen Drugs.
Married: the former Catherine Finch of Chicagoon on VE Day in 1945.
Survived by: his wife, his son, David N. Shanahan of Baltimore, Md., and a brother, a sister, Claribell Walgreen of West Lafayette, Ind.
