GRIMSBY BEACH STEAMBOAT SERVICE

The manager of the Canada Steamship Companies at Toronto and the the agent, Mr. Mark Allan at GRIMSBY Beach are very much disappointed over the limited amount of freight that has been shipped by the steamer Macassa the present season although a very excellent service has been given.

The manager of the Canada Steamship Company was led to believe last year that if a good regular twice-a-day service was given that considerable freight would be shipped both ways between GRIMSBY Beach and Toronto. The amount of freight shipped on the line has been very disappointing. Some fruit growers have embraced the oportunity of this short way of reaching Toronto quickly and at a low freight rate, but the patronage of fruit growers has been very light while other freight shipments been almost nil.

Mr. Allan, manager of GRIMSBY Beach, thinks that in view of the excellent freight and passenger service given by the boat between Toronto and GRIMSBY Beach for three months every summer that the freight patronage should be very much la*er than it is. He thinks that there should be concerted action amongst the business men of GRIMSBY and Beamsville to use the boat for freight shipments. He also thinks that if business men in this locality made effort to increase the freight trade that the Canada Steamship ** might put on an auto truck delivery and might also increase the length of the boat season. Mr. Allan as rep-resenting the Steamship Company would very much like to see the business men of GRIMSBY and Beamsville take hold of the matter and make an effort to increase freight shipments, both ways.

It might be a litttle late to bring(?) the matter to a successful issue this year, but it is not too late to make(?) plans for next year.
