It is pointed out that the ma- jority of cases which tie-Society has to deal with come from the unorganized parts of the district, where there is little or no money for such work. Wence the bur- den falls on the towns and town- ships where branches of the Society have been formed. It is acommon belief that the govern- ment makes provision for such cases, but such is incorrect. Of the work that is done through the Shelter here, and the money that is spent, the government pays a very small Proportion. The authorities take no responsi- bility, except in cases where the children are taken away from their parents for adoption by other parties, and asthe aim of the Society is more to make con- ditions such that the children can be left with the parents the great burden remains on the yolunteer workers. There need be no doubt in the mind of any person that the mon- ey made through such affairs as the entertainment last week will 'United Church W.MLS.
