Weird Exhibition of 7 Ball With Silver Centre Those who missed the picnic at Dawson's Point on Wednesday afternoon were treated to a good substitute at Lakeview Park by the Haileybury and Silver Centre baseball teams, who staged a weird exhibition which the visi"! tors won, 21-17. / Silver Centre scored one in the first, one in the second, one in the third, six in the fifth, two in the sixth, six in the seventh, one in the eighth and four in the ninth for their total, while Haileybury counted four in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth, seven in the sixth and two in the seventh. McCracken started on the mound for the home crew and went along fine until the fifth, when two walks and-three hits in a row caused his retirement. He was succeeded by Nottingham, who was warmly greeted by the Silver Centre gang, and was not helped by good fielding hehind him. Newkirk started on the hill for the visitors, was relieved by Russ Lemon in the fifth, but had to return to the job when Lemon lost control in the sixth, Sixteen hits were registered by each team, but Silver Centre had seyeral for extra bases and that about meafit the difference in the total score, as both teams were very loose in their fielding. A hit batsman, a walk, a couple of errors and three hits al- lowed Cobalt to notch five in the 3rd, and they looked to have the battle tucked away, but Liskeard tied it up in the 6th, on a couple of walks, a couple of safeties and two passed balls by the catcher. These 'teams are playing off the tie at the Beach this, Thursday, evening at 6 o'clock. Get Laura Secords at Bryan's -- Silver Centre Loses One to Cobalt, 8-3 Last Friday evening at Cobalt the Silver Centre ball tossers had one bad frame and allowed the home créw to notch seven tallies, which were plenty to win the ball 'game. The final count was 8-3. Silver Centre scored one in the 1st on Arcond's fumble, an out at first and a single to centre. Co- balt got it right back in their half. Franklin, in centre, mufted Cross' high lift, and the runner went all the way to third to score on Dearden's sacrifice fly to left. With two down in the 2nd, Russ. Lemon hoisted one over the fence and failed to touch the bases in going around, but the Cobalters did not know What to do to re- tire him, and before play was re- sumed, Lemon went around once more. The visitors added one more counter in the third, again on a fumble by Arcond and a hef- ty triple to right by Harry Cow- den. That ended their counting. Cobalt's big frame was the 5th. Ferguson started off witha hit which McCann deflected, but could not field. Nadeau -- hopped one down to second, and with an easy double play in sight, Harry Cowden muffed the second base- man's toss. "Polly" Wink, dug out of retirement by the Cobalt- ers, then crossed up the works vy laying down a bunt, which New- kirk did not field in time to get Fergttson at third. Arcond -was| hit. by pitcher, forcing in a. run. Ross rolled to second, and was out at first, but another run came in. Cross rolled one to second and the throw home was too late to gee the runner. Dearden hit Southall punched a {single to right and two more run- |ners crossed the plate. McAnd- 'rews drew a pass. Ferguson, up for the Second time in the inning | crashed one off McCann's shins, and accounted for another pair of runs. Nadeau ended the rally | by going out, third to first. H. Cowden relieved Newkirk in this frame with hone out and the bags loaded, but Newkirk returned to the hill in the sixth and retired the Cobalters in order. Cobalt played smart ball, and deserved the victory, their sec- j |the breeze. during the week. ies 3 v= CORSET, £ ee a Sean te eek E: HROSGe Coe ceiver 4°05 0 "4-0 Gunes 2bS es) co eek ~ O 2e Dearden; 3b. ...2 0 0 2 0 Southallstb, ads de<c2, 10° <0. It was the occasion of the visit to the local links of @ contingent of enthusiasts of the Royal and Ancient game from the beautiful city to the immediate south, North Bay. Nineteen stalwarts of the game paid us a friendly visit, and en- gaged our members in a contest. Weather, conditions were all that could be desired, the links were in good condition, the sun was shining brightly, the day was warm, and all the elements of nature seemed to vie with one another to make the day one long to be remembered. ; Promptly at nine, the hour set for the start, play began, when all the visitors were matched with friends of old, caddies were On hand, and everything was lovely. The forenoon was entirely tak- en up with single matches, match play was the order of things, each, match, irrespective of just how much ahead, was credited one point for a-win, while---those who came out evert were each al- lotted one-half a point. The rounds being over, the Vvis- itors were entertained to lunch at Hotel Haileybury, where the genial manager, Mr. W. J. Me- Lean, dispensed a very dainty luncheon to the entire tion of all. In the afternoon, a four-ball foursome was staged. Here the| count was decided on best ball and aggregate, one point being awarded the winners. The local ladies served iced tea during the afternoon, and to their efforts is due a very great meas- satisfac- ure of success of the days They also entertained the ladies who accompanied the players during the forenoon. It would be unfair to single out any of them, as all were most engaging and deserve the thanks of the members of the sterner sex for their hearty co-operation. Play being concluded, our visi- tors departed for home, all ex- one of the finest days they haal ever enjoyed. 'They were particularly pleased with the course, its wonderful location and its great improve- ment. Below is given a detailed score of the results of the ~ matches played: MORNING ROUNDS N.
