Although the race will start in New Liskeard, go through Hail- eybury and end in Cobalt, much enthusiasm has been shown in Kirkland Lake, Timmins, Coch- zane, Iroquois Falls, Englehart and Elk Lake, over the proposed race. Training has already start- ed in some of these towns and many entries are assured from all parts of the North. High schools, churches, scout troops, Tuxis Squares, are all numbered among those who are expected to enter teams. When the runners await the starters' gun on October 22nd it is expect- ed that the cream 'of the North's youth will be represented. Additional information concer- ning the trophies and prizes to be awarded the successful runners is now available. A silver shield, suitably engraved, will be held by the winning team for a year. This shield will be up for annual competition. Silver cups will be presented to each member of the winning team. Silver medals will be awarded each member of the second team to finish. All prizes are donated by The North- ern News, Cobalt. The race is being run under the direction of The Northern News in affiliation with the Co- balt Y.M.C.A. The "Y" haye al- ready offered their facilities to teams in the district for training purposes. From time to time additional information concerning the race will be announced. RULES OF THE RACE 1, Race will be over course of eleven miles, starting in New Liskeard and finishing in Co- balt. 2. Entrants must be under 18 years of age on the day of race. 3. Cobalt, Ont. * History Competition in South Temiskaming The results of the Special Com- petition in history relating to Confederation are announced be- low. The competition, which was held on June 2nd, was open to all public and separate schools and four medals were awarded to each inspectorate. Many schools competed and while only four re- ceived recognition the results in many cases were exceedingly close and a number of excellent essays were received.
