He used a piece of wire fastened to a beam in the stable to hang himself, after going out at 1 o'clock and cleaning out the sta- ble. His dead body was discov- ered by a boarder in the house at about 1.30 and, although it was still warm, efforts at resuscita- tion were unavailing. He had apparetnly stood ona small keg, while he attached the wire to his throat and then kicked the keg from underneath. His feet were barely clear of the floor when the body was discovered. Dr. G. E, Case was summoned immedia- tely but found that the unfortu- nate man was dead. Investigation by Provincial Constable Roth and Coroner Dr. Kane convinced the officers that it was a clear case of suicide and no inquest was ordered. Mrs. Dredhart stated that her husband had threatened to take his own life on different occasions re- cently on account of ill health and lack of employment, and the police say that he had acted pe- culiarly at times. He was 39 years of age, was Polish by birth and had been in Cobalt for a num- ber of years. The oldest of the seven children is only 13. It did not reach Hailey-; bury until 8.45 on Friday night,' with the result that no Toronto} mail was received here that day. | There were fifteen cars of the, freight train that left the tracks, but none of the crew suffered in-! jury. { No. 47 was routed via Scotia Junction and Capreol to North Bay and should have reached here | about five o'clock, but further de-| lay was caused by a breakdown; of the engine before the train! reached the city. H. CLIFFORD, Clerk Dated January 23rd, 1929. as lifetime of Team is Kalsomined in Saturday Night Game [ll-Luck Culminates in Injury to McFee and Locals Go Down By 5-0 Score The local hockey team was dip- ped in the kalsomine bucket, to the tune of 5-0 last Saturday ey- ening, by Stan Burgoyne's Por- cupine Pests, at the Haileybury Arena. It was not a good hockey game from a_ spectator's standpoint, but it was a real triumph for Lou Hudson. The former Grad star scored three unassisted goals, two in the first and one in the final frame. The first was a long backhanded lift, which hit about three feet in front of Suth- erland, and took an awkward hop into the net. The second one was from right at the corner of Win Englehart Cu On Saturday Last from New Liskeard The Englehart Cup had a short stay in New Liskeard, where it was conveyed in triumph on Sat- jurday night, January 12th, after a strenuous battle with the local defenders. On Saturday after- noon last, two rinks went up and again wrested it from the Lis- keard players with a score of 33 to 21. Fred Thompson and Taylor Pipe were the skips of the victor- ious rinks who brought back the silverware, the former playing a tie game against Elgin Binkley, 14-all, and the latter winning over Frank Binkley by 19 to 7. 30th games were hard fought and the outcome was in doubt until near the end of the series. The puck hit Gilmour's head and laid him out. It raised a real "goose-egg" on the defence man's cranium. Ken Buchan handled the game, and was away below his usual standard of refereeing. He fell behind the play too much and let numerous things get away from him.
