The qualifying round is being played today, with sixteen places to fill for the match play which follows on Friday. The semi- finals should be over on Friday afternoon, and the final will be on Saturday morning. There will also be a Consola- tion round for those who do not make the qualifying grade, and this will likely be on Friday, asf well. It is expected that about sixty will tee off this morning in an attempt to bring the title home to their own clubs. Howard Teskey, of North Bay is the present holder of the title, and he. will be at the Falls to defend his laurels against all- comers. Bobby Lee, 1927 win- ner, and Jock Stokes, of Tim- mins, fianlist last year, also will be on hand to match drives, bras- sies, mashies and putts with the other aspirants. The annual meeting of the Association will be held on Fri- day evening, with the election of officers and the selecting of the place for the next championship tournament. It is said that the Sudbury Club will make a bid for the 1930 title event. The representation from the "Haileybury Club this year will be small. Most of the tourna- ment class players are unable to take in the event owing to pres- sure of business and various other reasons, and this is to be regretted. / Some of the North Bay players were in town on Sunday on their way north, and had a couple of rounds on the local course, just to tune up for the big event. _---- Georfe Bancroft in "Obey the Law" from the story, "Under- world" at Broadway Theatre Mon. and Tues. MOTOR CYCLE OFFICER CROWDED INTO DITCH AND HAS LEG INJURED Provincial Constable Roth, in charge of traffic on this section of the Ferguson Highway, is in the Mines Hospital, Cobalt, suf- fering from injuries sustained when he was crowded off the road by a passing motorist on Tuesday night north of New Liskeard and his motorcycle turned over. It is reported that a small bone in his ankle is brok- en, but otherwise he is not ser- iously injured. Mr. Roth does not know who drove the passing car. Whether the driver did not see the motor- cycle, or just what caused the accident it is difficult to say. It happened so quickly that the of{ ficer had no chance to either sa himself from going over or to certain the identity of the mo orist. \ ; --~_. Saw Litter of Wolf Pups On Ferguson Higt im Mr. Geo. This was left to the waterworks committee to deal with as early $ las possible. It was decided to have a new floor laid in the ki- chen of the Red Cross Hospital, where a burst boiler had caused the old floor to warp until it was not fit for service. There had been an inquiry from a Cobalt man as to what price the town would accept for the fire team, but the council decided that it was out of the question to pur- chase a new team this year. There was some discussion over proposed improvements to the site of the soldier's memorial on Main Street, where it was stated that if the town would provide drainage labor would be forthcoming from another source to tevel off the slope from the plot to the roadway, seed it down Nartdck¢ep the grass cut. sexe schemes were discus- 'such as a wooden culvert, flat'stones and cinders, but no definate action was taken at the ' [meeting.
