There were between six- teen and twenty men in the de- gree team and they were accom- panied by several other visitors from the south. The brethren of Argentum and Temiskaming Encampments en- tertained the visitors and the gathering with refreshments af- ter the Lodge session concluded. Among those present were two District Deputy Grand Patriarchs Mr. Crichton, of New Liskeard, who heads this district, and Mr. Greeney, of North Bay, in charge of the district to the south. Fraternal visits among the En- campments have been held in the past and greatly enjoyed, but the gathering on Saturday night was particularly pleasing to the Nor- thern members, who attended in force. ----__>------__ The fall competition in the mixed doubles at the local Golf Club, was played Wednesday af- ternoon, with Miss D. Dwyer and D. E. Sutherland carying off the trophy with a net score of 68 for the 18 holes. About a dozen cou- ples participated in the event and the scores were, on the whole, considerably better than in the spring competition, owing chiefly to the fact that the members who took part have been practising steadily all summer. ; Phone 8 Eastern Caps For Dad and his Lad. Injured Hummingbird Found Street Corner Tuesday Mr. H: E. Blackwall picked up an injured hummingbird on_ the sidewalk at the corner of Main Street and Ferguson Avenue on Tuesday, when the little creature had apparently been stunned. Al- though he took it up to the court house and attempted to revive it, the bird was too badly injured and died shortly afterwards. Curious to know just what size the hummingbird is, Mr. Black- wall took it to a drug store and had it weighed. It tipped the | scales at 41 grains, or about one-; tenth of an ounce. Its plumage was a beautiful shade of green, and apparently full grown. Perky Porcupine Parades and Departs Unmolested Residents of the downtown section who were out early on Tuesday morning were treated to the somewhat unusual sight of a porcupine ambling along the Lake Shore Road in a northerly direc- tion. Just how the animal came to stray into town was not learn- ed and no one apparently thought it interesting enough to watch where it went. On different oc- casions in the past porcupines have ventured into town, usually Iwith the result that they were captured and shipped, either to the woods they came from or to a zoo, but this one was not mo- lested.
