Haileybory Published in the Interests of the Town of Haileybury and District of Temiskaming SUBSCRIPTION RATES: In Canada--$1.5u per year in advance {n United States--$2.00 per year in advance LEISHMAN % SUTHERLAND, | PUBLISHERS The Employment Service | of Canada | In our "Want Advertisement" | column wil be found a call from the Cobalt office of the Employ- ment Service of Canada for bush- men, pulpwood cutters, etc., and it seems an astonishing thing that more men do not come forward for this work, perhaps the sec- ond largest industry in Canada. The work is hard, but it is a fine, healthy life and the man who will put his back into it will find there is good money in it. Per- haps for the first month he will barely clear his board, but witha little practise and perseverance, he will realize that it makes the lower grades of mining work look avery poor proposition. There is no deadly silicosis or rheumatism to be feared and work can be found practically all the year round. Incidentally it is strange how few people know or realize the far flung activities of the Enf- ployment Service of Canada; any tradesman-or woman who is out of work should at least inquire at the office and ask if something in his or her line is not open in some part of the Province or in- deed in all Canada. It is 2impossible to display these distant and technical posi- tions on the blackboard, but the local Superintendent will always cheerfully give all the informa- tion in his power to an applicant ; and remember that this is at your disposal gratis Here is a specimen of the re- source and promptness of the Service: "A Superintendent was called on the phone at 6 a.m. on a Sun- day morning and informed thata bush fire was raging some miles away, and could he supply fifteen men to fight it. He called up the local jail and ascertained that fourteen men had been arrested for a minor trespass. He then called up the Judge, who agreed to release the men if. the trespassing charge could be withdrawn, and before 7 a.m. the men were on a Forestry Department truck proceeding to the scene of the fire. Employers of labor should make more use of the Service; no labor or;expense is spared to fit the jobless man to the manless job; it is at your disposal graits;]} why not use it? | DO Your. He had been ill since last April, but for some time previous had not been in good health, suffer- ing from wounds received in the war and from other causes, so that his latter years were more troubled than those of the aver- age man, although he bore his afflictions with a patience that brought admiration from all who knew him.
