As you are aware the town has collected only $55,000 on a levy of over $80,000 for 1929. There is owing to the Royal Bank for loan $60,000 over and above unpaid cheque to the Pub- lic. School for December and nearly $3,000 to the Separate School on the 1929 requisition. Mr. Charbonneau as Mayor is ex-officio a member of the Hous- ing Commission and is himself in arrears, of payment for a whole year (and this was over 18 months a few days ago) and the Town is just now going behind at the rate of approximately $400 ing at St. Mary's Hospital, Tim- mins, was home for Christmas holidays with her parents, Capt. and Mrs. McCarthy Burns. The regular monthly meeting of the Home and Foreign Mis- sion Circle of:the Baptist Church will held on Thursday, January 9th, at 3 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Jack Belland, Blackwall Street. { WEDDING BELLS sd e McKinlay--Ross The following announcement of the marriage of a 'popular Haileybury girl appeared in The New Liskeard Speaker- last week "A quiet wedding took place Saturday, Dec. 21st, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McKinlay, New Liskeard, when Berniece N Ross, of Haileybury, and John S. McKinlay, formerly of Elk Lake, were united in marriage, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Geo. N. Simmons, B.A., B. Th. The happy couple left on the evening train for points south a month on the whole scheme. Mr. Charbonneau has not paid water rates for about 5 quarters and is abusing his trust as Mayor in not paying these. Mr. Charbonneau as one of the committee handling money for the skating rink has failed to ac- count to the Town to his own profit. This year's Council will have to face the situation and most like- ly will have to issue debentures to cover uncollected taxes and an increase in taxation is accord- ingly inevitable. Lack of space does not allow going into further details, but I trust that the citizens will real- ize the situation and endeavor to put in a new Council that will handle the situation fearlessly and without favoritism. I have the honor to remain, Yours sincerely, JOSEPH A. LEGRIS. Clover Valley News Mr. Ritchie Plaunt has gone on a trip to. Renfrew.
