FRED MARR ELECTED TO COBALT COUNCIL BY MARGIN OF 5 VOTES Fred Marr, a newcomer to mu- nicipal politics in Cobalt, was elected as a member of the coun- cil in the Silver Town on Thurs- day last, defeating O. Chenette, whose unseating by Judge Hart- man on the ground of non-pay- ment of taxes at the time of nom- ination caused the by-election. There were 826 yotes polled, which is said to be a-record num- ber for a mid-season election there. Marr's majority over his opponent was just five votes. In three polling places in the northern part of the town Chen- ette had the best of the running, but in the other four the victor was away ahead. The vote poll- ed was considerably larger than that of the regular election in De- cember last. NORTH WINS TROPHY OF LIFE INSURANCE CO. Laurent, district manager, at a banquet held last week in North Bay, when about 25 repre- sentatives of the company were present. Among those from this section of the district who at- tended the function were A. W. Lang, Timmins; F. H. Todd, Co- balt and W. C. Thuerck, Hailey- bury.
