a ) THURS., NOVEMBER 20, 1930 THE HAILEYBURIAN Page Rotarians Have Fraternal Visit From Kiwanians Service Clubs from Two Towns Foregather Here for Their Weekly Luncheon On Monday of this week the Haileybury Rotary Club was host to some 41 members of the New Liskeard Kiwanis Club at the regular weekly luncheon in Ho- tel Haileybury. There were over 20 of the local men present, mak- ing a really jolly crowd and the gathering was heartily enjoyed by all. Following the luncheon and the regular business of the local club, the visitors were tendered a hearty welcome by the president, Alf. Brian, and the meeting was then turned over to Len Hill, the president of the sister organiza- tion in New Liskeard. Mr. Hill spoke briefly of the pleasure which the joint meeting gave the members, both on this and other occasions, and of the service the clubs were rendering to their respective communities. < Joe. Beamans, of the Liskeard Club, gave an address on the work which the service clubs were doing for the general bene- fit of the towns and district, showing that their aims and ob- jects were similar and that they could at times work together to the best advantage of all. The main theme of his talk was "Ser- vice", as it is the main object of both organizations, and he made it very interesting to the gather- ing. A. G. Kirkpatrick, a past pres- ident of the Rotary Club, gave a brief address along similar lines, adding his welcome to the visi- tors and his pleasure in working in conjunction with the men from the sister town. W. Lickley, well known New Liskeard singer entertained the gathering with a solo, and the usual community singing served to make the meet- ing a yery enjoyable one. The Salvation Army 33-3-c Mrs. Somerville Still in Hospital After Injuries Expected She Will Be Able To Return Home This Week; Doctor Recovered Mrs. Dr. Somerville, who with the doctor was injured in a mo- tor accident on the Ferguson Highway on Sunday, is still in the North Bay Hospital, where she was taken following the crash and where Dr. Somerville was also a patient for a day or two, although less seriously in- jured. It is expected that Mrs. Somerville will be able to return to her home about the end of the week, friends here state. The doctor is remaining in North Bay until Mrs. Somerville recovers. With their small daughter, Wilma, Dr. and Mrs. Somerville left on Sunday morning to drive to Toronto, where the doctor planned to attend a banquet giv- en by the Dental Association. About 32 miles this side of North Bay the mishap took place, when their car and one driven in the opposite direction by J. T. O. Le- gault, of that city, sideswiped one another. The Somerville car top- pled over into the ditch, with Mrs. Somerville and the little girl inside, and took fire. In breaking the glass in the door in order to release his wife, Dr. Somerville suffered a rather bad cut on his wrist. With the help of the driver and a passenger in the other car, the doctor was able to release Mrs. Somerville from the burning vehicle before she was seriously injured and the little girl was not hurt. The car burned up and is a total loss. Shortly after the accident Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Thorne arrived on the scene on their way south and took Wilma with them on to Toronto Mrs. Somerville and the doctor were rushed to North Bay with all possible speed and both were admitted to hospital. Dr. Somerville was able to leave the institution after a couple of days. Mrs. Somerville suffered badly from the shock, in addition to her injuries, but is making a good recovery, her friends here say. . . that it-is acknowledged 6] be the finest picture she has ever made? re PHONE = OUALIT Gag EASTERN STAR BRIDGE ON TUESDAY EVENING WAS PLEASANT EVENT A very pleasant time was spent by a large gathering at the bridge held on Tuesday evening in the Masonic Temple by Vega Chap- ter of the Eastern Star.
