Myers, of Sault Ste Marie, Ont., spent a day or two in town this week. Mr. Geo. A. Bremner of Bestel and formerly of Haileybury, was in town over the week-end. Charles Elliott, at present em- ployed at Kirkland Lake, visited his home here Sunday last. Mr .and Mrs. O. J. Thorpe left on Sunday on a motor trip to Hamilton and Grimsby, Ont. Mr. Reuben Montgomery, of Smith's Falls, was a business vis- itor in Haileybury for a day or two this week. The local Rebekah Lodge will hold a bazaar in the Oddfellows' Temple on Friday, December 12, from 3 to 6 p.m. The annual bazaar of the Re- bekah Lodge will be held this year on Friday, December 12th, in the Oddfellow's Temple. Mrs. J. Doyle left last week to visit her daughter residing in Toronto. She is leaving today to spend a week in Niagara Falls The ladies of St. Paul's Church are planning to hold a bazaar on Saturday, December 6th, com- mencing at 3 p.m., in the Parish Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Elliott, for- merly of Haileybury, were in town on Sunday from Kirkland Lake for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Fred. Austin. The Junior Auxiliary of St. Paul's Church will hold a tea and sale of work in St. Paul's Parish Hall on Friday, November 28th, from 3 to 6 p.m. Mrs. Geo. Sutherland, of Bestel was in town over the week-end for a visit with her sons, D. E. and G. A. Sutherland, and her daughter, Mrs. P. Grozelle: Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sutherland were down from Bestel on Sun- day for a visit with Mrs. Suther- land's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Peacock, and other relatives. The Ladies' Aid of the United Church will hold a "White Ele- phant" Sale on Saturday, Novem- ber 29th, at Hotel Haileybury. Home cooking, needlework, tea, musical program. The Ladies of Charity will hold an old time bean supper and so- cial evening 'at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Tuesday, No- vember 25th, from 6.30 to 8 p.m. Admission 50 cents. ATTENTION! OBITUARY Mrs. Matthew Floody Many old friends in Haileybury were grieved to learn this week of the death of Mrs, Matthew Floody, which took place in St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, on Saturday last, November 15th. She had been ill for some time and two weeks prior to her death had undergone an operation. The late Mrs. Floodv was born in Devonshire, England, 66 years ago and had spent the greater part of her life in Canada. With Mr. Floody, who died four years ago, she had lived in Blyth, Ont., before coming to Haileybury in the early days of the town. For the past few years she had resid- ed at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. Lloyd Beel, in Toronto. She was a member of the United Church and during her long resi- dence in Haileybury had made many friends and was well liked by all. Besides her daughter, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Johns, of Exeter, Ont., and_ two brothers, Edwin L. and Roger Crocker, Toronto. The funeral was held on Mon- day, November 17th, interment being in Mount Pleasant Ceme- tery, Toronto. Dorothy May Dempster Little Dorothy May Dempster, aged four, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dempster, Brown- ing Street, died on Friday morn- ing last after a short illness. She had contracted scarlet fever and the home is now under quaran- tine, along with two or three others where it is believed there has been traces of the disease or exposure to infection. : Mrs. Dempster has been quite ill herself, but is reported as re- covering this week. Little Dor- othy was a bright and healthy child and a great favorite and there are many friends and neighbors, who deeply sympa- thize with the bereaved -parents. One infant son is the other sur- viving member of the family: -- The funeral of the little girl was held on Saturday morning last, interment being in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Fernholm and family. Bessy Switzer The funeral of Miss Bessy Switzer, aged 9 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. O Railway, the Ernest Meunier Ernest Meunier, a middle-aged married man, died suddenly at his home in North Cobalt on Wednesday, shortly after having been removed there following a collapse on the road. Meunier, it is stated, had been to Argen- tite, looking for a job, and on his return his wife noticed him fall in the road. He was taken into the house, and Rev. Father For- est, of the R. C. Church, summon- ed, while a doctor was also sent for, but Meunier was dead be- fore the medical man arrived. He had been in good health until a- bout two weeks ago, when he complained of pains in his chest. Dr. W. C. Arnold, coroner, Hail- eybury, investigated, but an in- quest will not be held. The fu- neral took place on Friday mor- ning.
