This mea- sure was framed with a view to securing the best possible re- sults and the delay in making it law was occasioned by the efforts of the Medical Health Officer and the council to ensure that it would be satisfactory in every respect, not only from the stand- peint of the consumer, but also in a way that would be fair and just to the dairymen who supply the town. Under the provisions of the new measure all dairy herds must be given a tuberculin test by a competent veterinary surgeon, or tailing that, a satisfactory sys- tem of pasteurization must be jinstalled. Conditions under which |milk is handled in the dairy houses, proper care of stables and many other points in keeping all covered and the by-law framed after a sample one sub- mitted by the provincial Depart- ment of Health, and with the ap- proval of that body. It is very comprehensive and covers all |points which are likely to crop up lin the future in regard to the milk and cream supply. | When the by-law was being passed the question of the price lof milk in Haileybury came up land some of the councillors gave lit -as their opinion that these |prices were higher than in some |communities. It was _ stated, |however, that the measure was lintended wholly for the securing lof a pure milk supply and that no further regulations could be included. As the new by-law has been some time and its provisions made known to the milk dealers, the main requirements have al- ready been complied with. The larger dairies have all either had their herds tested or installed the pasteurization system and Dr. Arnold, M.O.H., has reported that the stables, milk houses and other premises are being kept in good shape. cece cee @ CHURCHES ! He lived quietly in retirement, but maintained till the end the hered- itary traits of the fine old Eng- lish gentleman. The funeral was held on Sun- day afternoon from St. Paul's Anglican.Church and was largely attended, voicing in no small measure the respect held for him and his family in the community. His two sons-in-law, Mr. Walter Mallinson and Mr. J. Blundell, together with Messrs. W. Scott, J. Williams, J. McKay and S. Mc- Kemens, acted as pallbearers, the chief mourners being his daugh- ters, Mrs. Walter Mallinson, Mrs. J.
