Page 6 THE HAILEYBURIAN THURS., JANUARY 15th; 193% THE RHYMING OPTIMIST By Aline Michaelis : * And Her Ideas] Gift of Roses When someone gives me roses, Peach-petalled, hearts of gold, New joy the day discloses, Fresh hopes the hours unfold! No pleasure life devises Affords a deeper thrill, For with rose-fragrance rises Love's incense, sweeter still. The roses tell of raptures In gardens drenched with dew, Of spoils the bold bee captures The whole bright Summer through. When someone gives me roses, As golden hearts unfold, Each petal there discloses The love that is life's gold. Resolve Although the years may greet me With many a care and pain, No sorrow shall defeat me, No loss shall be in vain; And though regrets may linger For all that coud not be, I shall go on, a singer, Of life, abundant, free, Though unfulfilled one longing, - From Paris My fondest heart's desire, There still are pleasures throng- ing, Still hope and youth conspire To make each morrow better Than any day gone by, And no dead dream can fetter Life's mounting ectasy.
