a THURSDAY, APRIL 16th, 1931 THE HAILEYBURIAN Page 7 Haileybury in 1924 Items from the Files of The Haileyburian of Seven Years Ago A hardy annual in the vexed question of transfer licenses made its appearance at the meeting of the town council Monday night, and a distinction between ordin- ary teamsters and draymen is to be made. The Board of Trade will hold a luncheon and meeting in the curl- ing club rooms on April 29th, when public questions will be dis- cussed. Rev. J. O. Watts, pastor of the Haileybury United Church, ex- changed pulpits with Rev. An- derson, of Kirkland Lake, last Sunday. Dr. Waugh, Provincial Inspec- tor of Schools, was in Haileybury yesterday inspecting the new public and separate schools here, which will be opened immediately after the Easter holidays. The ice appears to be solid in the lake, although open water near the upper end could be seen,|~ with the aid of a glass, on Tues- day. Elmer Maracle, star player on the North Bay Trappers, junior hockey team, is visiting at his home in Haileybury this week. Work on the new club house for the G.W.V.A., on Browning Street, commenced this week and some excavating has already been 'ctomre. . A letter to Mayor Summers from Angus McDonald, M.P., states that the latter has arrang- ed an appointment with the Min- ister of Public Works in regard to the rebuilding of the armories here, and a delegation will go to Ottawa for the interview. Matheson News Mr. F. Gardner went South on Saturday of last week. H. B. Child went to Noranda this week Grahams. A number of the Motor League members attended the annual meeting at Iroquois Falls last Thursday. The: snow is nearly all gone all over the district and the motor- ists are endeavoring every day to open the traffic to adjoining towns. ' We are 'glad to know that a _. great deal of mining activity has commenced all over this section, and no doubt some good results TRAIL RANGER AND TUXIS DOINGS Right here and now the "Path- finders" wish to thank all those who helped support their Bazaar in anyway. There is only one regret, that is that not everyone was there. Well apparently the stock crash has nothing to do with Trail Rangers. At the Baz- aar they made about $25.00 clear profit. The money will be divid- ed evenly amongst the boys who go to the District Camp at Piries' Point this summer. Berets for the Trail Rangers, Tuxis Boys and Mentors, may be secured through Lors Carlson, or by mailing price direct to Boys' Work Board, 299 Queen St. W.,| to unload a car of] Toronto.. The Tuxis and Trail Ranger Berets are 75c and the Mentors, 85c. will be produced within a short time. The Settlers meeting held on Saturday afternoon created con- siderable interest and no doubt this association will do justice to the community and be the means of better markets for the farmer in the near future. The Iroquois Falls and District Motor Club held their annual Motor Show in the Falls on Tue- sday and in the evening at the banquet many distinguished guests spoke in favor of the pro- gress the club had made. Mr. Lough, Resident Engineer was the principal speaker. The Agricultural meeting held last Thursday was attended by many of the. settlers throughout the district. Mr. L. Pommereau, Agricultural representative from Kapuskasing gave a very inter- esting lecture on the farm, and in the evening he held his Picture Show, which was very instruct- tive to the audience. Mr. Nixon from the Experimental Farm, at New Liskeard took a very active part in the meeting and answer- ed many questions pertaining to the farming problems. Ratepayers of New Liskeard voted on Monday _ on a by-law granting a fixed assessment of $10,000 on the factory property of Hill-Clark-Francis Limited, with the result that a majority of two votes in favor of the propos- ed measure was recorded. The vote stood 68 for and 66 against. The terms of the by-law require that at least 15 employees be kept working. : Ae Her Ideas ! .
