Gagnon, a miner living at "104" committed suicide by plac- ing some sticks of dynamite on his chest and setting fire to a fuse which was.attached to the ex- plosive. An announcement was made this week by Mayor Summers that a date in the near future would be set by the council to be observed as "Clean-Up Day." Following the Board of Trade banquet on Tuesday evening, three interesting boxing bouts were staged in the curling rink. These were arranged by Milt. Austin and W. C. Thuerck acted as referee. Six new cases of measles are reported in town this week. They are all among children and are of a mild type. THE RHYMING OPTIMIST By Aline Michaelis Extinct Volcano! The great hills rising, form a oe. ciccle here, ~ Green-clad and gently sloping} from each crest; Alike the farthest hill and that most near In April's vivid loveliness are are dressed. Yet once these slopes were once tall mountain's base, Far, far above uprose its lofty height, And deep within, a strange and awful place, -- Wild fires raged through time- less starless night. No man knows when the great eruption came That tore the breast of Earth asunder wide, No history records the rocks, smoke, flame, The lava flow, the gas by which men died. } So well have busy Time and Nat- ure wrought These hillside farms hold not one tragic thought. April April! Have you ever For an instant seen Her bright features shining Through her veils of green? She is so elusive That her loveliness, Wreathed in gay-hued flowers, We can only guess. Yet today I saw her, April, flesh and blood, Dancing down the roadway In a merry mood. Just a glad child running Straight into the wind, Tattered garments flying, Curls blown out behind; Laughing face uplifted, Eyes were rapture rife, April, young and eager, Arms outstreched to life! District Ore Shipments Seven cars of ore, with a total content of 517,634 pounds, were shipped by Cobalt mines during the period March 28th to April 17th, according to the statement of the T.&N.O. Railway. Of these D. L. Jemmett shipped three cars the O'Brien mine two cars, and the Temiskaming Test Laborat- ory and the Mining Corporation one car each. Three cars were shipped to Halifax, two to Delora one to Tadanac and one to Mar- mora.
