EARLY MORNING FIRE IN EMPTY HOUSE IS PUZZLE TO BRIGADE enna A fire which occurred around 3 a.m. yesterday, in an empty house on View Street, has so far proved a puzzle to Chief Marcella and members of the brigade. The house had been unoccupied for some time, but recently the own- er, Mr. Luscumb, had been doing some repairs in preparations for its being rented. Eugene Lemay, returning from a late party at Cobalt, was the first to see the blaze when he arrived at his home on the next street. The brigade was notified and had the fire out in less than an hour, although they were forced to break into the building, a frame structure two storeys in height. The damage was not great, probably around $100, as the flames had not gained much Bad Week For Prospectors Who | Phone 22 Use Planes; Couldn't i See Haileybury Iby his son, Forest, and Pilot G. = R. Hoard, which sA5ccurred near his home in Mar- quette, Mich., on Sunday, May 3rd. He was out with a fishing party and was alone at the time, so it is doubtful if the cause will ever be known. When found the body was partly floating in a lake. The Hoard family lived in Hail- eybury for a number of years land were well known. Mr. Hoard lwas 65 years old and leaves his | widow, three daughters and two sons, all of whom have their present homes in Michigan. He was a prominent Mason and at the time of his death held mem- bership in Bethal Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Sauit Ste Marie, Cobalt Chapter, R.A.M., the Knights Templar, Rameses Temple of the Mystic Shrine, and the Eastern Star at Evansport, Ohio. will all family in Haileybury friends sympathize with the their bereavement. The Ontario Government has increased the wolf bounty to $25, a measure that will, it is believ- ed, help materially to keep down the menace to deer and other ani- mals. In Memoriam In sad but loving memory of our darling little baby Lillian Ruth, who was called away May 18th, 1928, age 5 weeks. Also our darling little Dorothy May, who was called away November 14th, 1930, age 4 years and 4 months. Beside your graves we often stand With hearts both crushed and sore, But in the gloom the sweet words come Not lost but gone before. God knows how much we miss them, He counts, the tears we shed, And whispers: "Hush, they only sleep, Your loved ones are not dead." When we reach the heavenly gar- dens And see them in full bloom, The flowers we loved so dearly, And though God plucked too soon, Oh, then we shall-know the reas- on, Though we know it not today, Why in their fragrant beauty God took our flowers away. Sadly missed by Daddy, Mam-~- ma and little Buddy. *© |for Prayer and Bible Study.
