You didn't know it, but I've been looking at you, viewing you as you were re- flected in the columns of last week's Haileyburian. You'd be surprised to know what a faithful mirror of your community I found this good newspaper to be. If publishers Leishman & Suth- erland permit, Ill write each week, telling you what most in- terested me in the isue of The Haileyburian for the previous week. Later on, when we're bet- ter acquainted, I may speak rather freely at times, and then I'm almost sure to make occa- sional mistakes. However, when I'm too far off the track, I hope some of you will call me back by }dropping me a line in care of this paper. Your letters will be for- warded, and I promise to give them prompt attention. Before going a single line fur- ther, we'll settle one thing so that it need never be mentioned again. None of you know me I've never been in Haileybury, and there isn't a chance in ten thousand that you've ever seen me. I'm just an odd piece of humanity that's been tossed a- bout on life's sea for quite a long spell. Now I find my keenest pleasure in reading the good weekly newspapers that come to my desk. Such papers as The Haileyburian are ever so much closer to the lives of their read- ers than the metropolitan sheets. In future letters I'll say very lit-|, tle about myself, but will confine my remarks to the impressions gained from reading The Hailey- burian from week to week. Mrs. William Foster and two sons of Muskegon, Mich., formerly of Haileybury, are vis- iting relatives and friends in town. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Carmichael and children, of Sudbury, are the guests of Mrs. Carmichael's mother, Mrs. R. R. Smith, of North Cobalt. Miss M. C. Ratcliffe, of St. Cactherines, is expected in town on Saturday for a visit with her brother, Mr. R. H We seldom realize what a great contribution medical science has made to life and human _happi- ness, until its blessings are re- vealed as they were in the case of Robert Clermont, who recent- ly underwent an operation at the Misericordia Hospital. Think of the suffering he has been spared through medical progress, and what a foundation has been laid for future good health! That he will have a pleasant convalescence and a speedy recovery: is my earnest wish. 5: What interesting lives were those of James H. Stitt and Geo.
