Spee eee A TL EYBURIAN SEPTEMBER 3, 1931 THURS.., Captain Evered Nears Century in English Home Father of Haileybury Man Knew Florence Nightingale; Is Ancient Mariner Captain John Guy Courtney Evered, R.N., of Bridgwater, Somersetshire, England, father of N. J. Evered, well known min- ing man of the North and a resi- dent of Haileybury, will be 100 years old on September 22nd, He is still hale and hearty in his English home, where Mr. and Mrs. Evered visited him two years ago, and is a man of great experience in the world. He is the oldest living Etonian, having] entered that famous school when he was 12 years of age,and is one of the few surviving veterans of the Crimean war. Pictures of the veteran, which Mr. and Mrs. Ev- ered have here, show him to bea remarkably preserved man for his great e show his beautiful English home, where he is spending the evening of his days and enjoying life. In an interview with a news- paper at his home, Captain Ever- ed told in an entertaining way yme of his experiences through- out the Crimean war.
