a THURSDAY, DEG. 3rd, 1931 THE HA BURIAN Page 3 Prize Canadian Cattle Shipped to the Far East To Be Used for Breeding and to Supply High Grade Milk for the Anglo-Saxons Bound for Hong Kong, China, - 35 head of pure bred Ayrshire milk cows left eastern Canada on a journey of nearly 8,000 miles. These emigrant cattle were sel- ected from prize herds in the Dundas area of Ontario and the Huntingdon-Howick districts of Quebec by Mr. David Hunter, field man for the Canadian Ayr- shire Breeders' Association. They spent eight days in two Canadian National Railways box cars bound for Vancouver, and during the trans-Canada journey were at- tended by two experienced herds- men. At Vancouver they will be transferred to the liner to com- plete the remaining 5,800 miles of their journey at sea. They will be approximately 28 days on the water. These cows are to be used for breeding purposes by the Dairy Ice and Cold Storge Company of Hong Kong, and to supply high grade milk for the white settle- ment of that city, according to My. F. W. Walsh, Superintendent of Agriculture for the Canadian National Railways and who ar- ranged their shipment. They are above the average in breeding and production and are from two to six years of age. They are among' the healthiest animals in Canada, for, in addition to the tuberculin, they have had to pass successfully several other blood tests for foot and mouth disease and other more obscure maladies. This shipment is in the nature of an experiment, which, if suc- cessful, will probably lead to fur- ther exports of Canadian cattle to the Orient. In addition to the eastern Ayrshires, a further con- signment of British Columbia Holsteins is also going forward to Hong Kong this month. Ratepayers' Association i Appreciates Consideration On behalf of the Haileybury Ratepayers "Association we wish _ to tender our thanks to the may- "or and council for the patient hearing they gave us during the recent discussions over the water line contract and for their con- sideration in providing, so far as lay in their power, employment for the working men of the town. The Association is at all times ready to lend assistance to the council' in solving problems of the town, and desires to work in harmony with all other public bodies. : G. Davis, H. Davis, S. This may So the retailer's job is to get into his store 200 customerts each week average of 34 a day. _ The right way to get on in business og .Is to set sales mark for the year -- $5,000, $10,000, $20,000, $50,000-- whatever is reasonable and within one's financial ability. These customers to be secured at the rate of 200 per week require to be (1) invited, publicly and regularly, by ad- vertisements in this newspaper; (2) in- formed about the seller's merchandise, prices and service--again by advertise- ments in this newspaper, and (3) so well served by the retailer that they will become "'repeaters."' Then the year's objective should be reduced to weekly and monthly amounts, in accordance with the season- al character of one's business. : Then the next thing to do is to cal- culate the number of sales transactions needed each week to produce the weekly sales objective. Thus, if one's average sales transaction is 50 cents, and if one's weekly sales objective is $100; then, clearly, the retailer must have 200 sales _ The main thing is customer attrac- tion in required and pre-determined numbers, and this is achieved by inter- esting and warm-blooded advertise- ments in this newspaper.
