The THE RHYMING _ OPTIMIST By Aline Michaelis UNTIL YOU KNOW You have not tasted life until you know How copicus it can be, When there is dearer life with yours to go Throughout eternity. You have not glimpsed of love until you learn It is not set apart, But is a flame through all your days to burn, Through all your heart. When life far dearer than your own comes in To dwell always with you, Then all the gardens of the world begin To glow with bloom anew; The sea's song deepens and an added light From out the rainbow gleams; The lark pours forth fresh lyrics of delight To match your singing dreams. You have not tasted life until you find How sweet life shared can be, Or glimpsed of love till all its tendrils wind About your being's tree! NEW JOYS New joys will bloom while years go by, As roses greet the smiling sky. With every glad, recurrent June, And linnets pipe their happy tune. New joys will stretch their tendrils out To creep and climb and twine about Our lives, till all is fair and bright, While wintry doubts and fears take flight. New joys! Then yield to no dismay When these now cherished pass away, For all things changeand allare fleet, Most evanescent are most sweet. Ah, trust the future; it will bring Glad days that shine. and hours sing. Days even as dear and prized as these That now weave glowing tapestries!
