Maltby Provide Prize for Singles; Monthly Contests A new trophy will be presented this season to the Haileybury Lawn Bowling Club by the sons of the late John L. Maltby, the club executive learned at a meet- ing this week. Mr. Maltby wasa charter member of the club, an enthusiastic bowler and the win- ner of the first singles competi- tion held after the formation of the club a few years ago. The new trophy will be for annual 'competition in aseries of singles 'contests played over the period June to September. Each month a round will be completed and the four winners will play off for the trophy at the close of the sea- son. In accepting the trophy, the executive decided to provide an individual prize to each month's winner, together with a replica of the original trophy to the winner of the final. All members of the club are being included in a draw and they will be notified of the dates of their games, which must be played on the date set or pre- viously. Games will be 12 ends, with the semi-finals and final 14 ends, and players are urged to arrange for a referee. The first round of the prelimi- nary competition has been com- pleted, with the following results: Austin won from Duncan; Hartman from Joy; Fleming from Hayward; Caldbick from: Hull; No Truth in Report That Mrs. Dionne in Haileybury A story to the effect that Mrs. Oliva Dionne, mother of the fam- ed quintuplets, had come to Hail- eybury "as a place of seclusion during the expected birth of her 12th child," which was published in some of the daily papers on Thursday last, had no foundation in fact. It was stated that she was to be a patient of Dr. J. A. H. Joyal here, but on enquiring of him The Haileyburian learned that there was no truth in the story. Dr. Joyal said that it was the first he had heard of it and| he concluded that the reporters had got his name mixed with that of his brother, Dr. I. Joyal, of North-Bay. e According to the North Bay Nugget on Friday, the story ori- ginated from a trip Mr. Dionne made up the Ferguson Highway to procure a dog. Near Latchford "1a: The boiler room and compressor house at the old Crescent Silver mine, eight miles up the Montreal River from Latchford, were de- stroyed by fire last week. The cause is unknown, but it is thought that lightning may have started the blaze. The property has been idle for the past 10 years and apparently there was no one there at the time of the fire. The machinery in the buildings is said to have been ruined. Robert Hetherington was fatal- ly burned in a fire in a radio shop at Kirkland Lake on Friday last, which started from gasoline used in washing clothes. ) lin September.
