Page 5 Bathing Beach Is Busy Spot at Class Opening '(Children Swarm to Lake Front on Monday; Carl Hutt Again on Instructing Job The local bathing beach was a busy spot on Monday morning when the annual swimming classes, sponsored by the Hailey- bury Rotary Club, were opened byai@dre uth) eibe children swarmed to the lake front, were all registered and given 'the ne- cessary information as to what hours their particular course of instruction would be held and en- joyed a dip and.a romp along the beach. The classes began regu- larly on Tuesday and will be car- tied along during the school holi- days. The schedule is the same as last year and from all appearances the classes will be just as popular as they have been in the past. © cece ce Local Golf Notes New work on the local golf course has increased the yardage from 2667 to 2800 yards this sea- son, and the course will be in tip-top shape for the Northern Ontario Golf Association title play the first week of August. The new green at No. 5 will be fit for play in a couple of weeks, and some of the club swingers are-already trying out the new tee which brings No. 6 to the 573 mark in yardage. Greenskeeper Homewood and his men have been very busy this spring and summer preparing for the sea- son's big event, and it will not be their fault if the course is not in grand shape for the great num- ber of players expected on Au- gust 6th, 7th and 8th. Former ee Player and Haileybury Resident Dead Charles Devlin, a former resi- dent of Haileybury, died at Otta- See. wa hospital on Wednesday of last fee - week, after an illness of some two | years. He was in his 55th year and is survived by his widow and four children. In his early youth Mr. Devlin lived in Haileybury and was well known in hockey circles. A play- er himself, he took an active part in the management of the Hail- eybury hockey team in those days and is well remembered hy many of the local residents. He work- ed in stores here and in Cobalt, but for many years past has re- sided in Ottawa. The annual water sports day of the Haileybury Rotary Club will he held this year on Wednes- day, July 29th.
