i | { ' | THURSDAY, JULY 16th, 1936 / an Yel 12 HAILEYBURIAN Page 5 -- Visiting Golfers Win Prizes on Tuesday Here 'Large Number Take Part in the Events Staged at Golf Club by Ladies' Section A large number of visiting and local golfers took part in the field day staged by the ladies sec- tion of the local Golf Club on Tuesday of this week, when play- 'ers from Timmins, Noranda, Kirkland Lake and North Bay joined with the homesters in a variety of competitions Putting and driving competi- tions were staged in the morning with Mrs. F. N. McNally, North Bay, winning the driving and Mrs. E. W. Todd, Kirkland Lake, runner-up. Mrs. A. G. Kirkpat- rick, Haileybury, won the put- ting event. There were over one hundred Jadies assembled for the luncheon which followed, and a very en- joyable social visit was participa- ted in. After the luncheon a nine-hole round was played, with Mrs. J. Stokes, Kirkland' Lake the prize winner. Mrs. McGregor, Noran- da. was the runner-up. Three local players tied on the round, Miss Betty Connell, Miss Tola McDonell and- Miss Mar- gare Dunbar. The ladies are to be congrau- Jated on the great success of the day, and the visitors all expressed their appreciation of the hospi- tality extended and their pleasure at the condition of the course. FIREWORKS DISPLAY, BAND, ORCHESTRA TO BE FEATURES OF PROGRAM The Rotary water sports day this year, to be held on July 29th, will have an added feature in the form of a big display of fireworks in the evening, according to Ro- tarian J.W. Rose, who has charge of that part of the program. At the club meeting on Monday Mr. Rose told the members that the fireworks, a special selection made up by the manufacturers, would occupy some 45 minutes after dark. The rockets, etc., will be set off at the east end of the breakwater where all may have a good view. Another attraction this year will be a band-orchestra, which is coming from North Bay. They will play during the afternoon and in the evening will provide the music for the dance to be held on the wharf. It is expected that a team of expert swimmers from Camp Cochrane, Temagami, will again give an exhibition while the general program of events will follow closely that of last year. although a race for out- board motorboats will be added and a canoe tilting event will be substituted for the canoe race. Commence Ghent Half of Softball Schedule Tonight The Easy Aces and the Lazy Nine will open the second half of the softball tonight, and on Morday night the Town will meet the Aces.
