1936 THURSDAY, JULY 23rd, ideal ts PATRISENY BUFR AN Page 5_ . Played First of Inter-Club Games Against Noranda\° Queebc Town Golfers Pay Visit on Sunday Last, and Enjoy Round Greatly Eighteen golfers from Noranda were guests of the local club members on Sunday last, the occasion being the first of the inter-club matches. The boys teed off at 9.30, played eighteen holes and then had luncheon at Hotel Haileybury. The Haileybury club swingers secured a lead of 19 points in the nine matches played, but in fair- ness to the visitors, it was their first experience over the tricky local layout and they will likely make up plenty of lost ground when the return matches are put on in. August. The day was a most enjoyable one for all concerned,, and the hope was expressed that the visits be made a permanent part of the annual golf program in both clubs. Following are the results, with Local Golf Notes The first of the home-and-home matches for the Sanders Cup be- tween the golfers of North Bay and Haileybury will be staged in the Gateway City next Sunday. It is probable that the largest number yet to participate in the inter-club event will be on hand Sunday. MHaileybury won the trophy the first year it was com- peted for, but North Bay wrested it away and have kept a strangle hold on it since. Haileybury lads have determination to wrest it loose this trip. The second round of the Tay- lor Cup (Mixed Doubles) will be played on Saturday of this week, having been postponed on ac- count of the rain Wednesday. Tea day at the Golf Club will be on Tuesday next week, on ac- count of the Rotary water sports being held on Wednesday, and the hostesses are Mrs. Beecroft, Mrs. Teare, Mrs. Grant and Miss M. Briden. | Sixteen ladies from the local!
