The death of William Purdy Jr. aged 26, took place in the Cobalt Hospital on Friday last, September 18th, after a week's illness in the institution. |He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. | William Purdy, residents of Co- ibalt for many years, and was born in Nova Scotia. A heart af- fliction was the cause of his death. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon, with the service in St. James' Anglican Church, conduct- ted by Rev. E. A. Irwin, and in- terment in Silverland Cemetery. Surviving. are his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Municipal W. E. SIMPSON, M.E. After several years' illness, W. E, Simpson, well known mining man of the North Country, died in Toronto on Thursday last, /Sept*17th. He was 64 years of lage, born in England and had spent his life in the mining in- dustry, both in Canada and Aus- jtralia. Mr. Simpson was well jknown to Haileybury people and 'often visited here during the years he spent at Swastika and 'Kenogami Lake. He was a mem- ber of MHaileybury Masonic Lodge, Temiskaming Preceptory 'and of Rameses Temple in To- ronto. Knights of Columbus Hold Regional Gathering Here A get-together meeting of the various councils of the Knights of Columbus in this district was held in the K. of C.. Hall, Haileybury, on Monday evening. The coun- cils of Sturgeon Falls, North Bay, Cobalt and Haileybury were re- presented 'at the large gathering. which, after concluding the busi- ness of the evening, repaired to the Blue Line Tea Room for re- freshments.
