One-half of the firm went fishing while the other half took a motor trip, and both excursions were highly enjoyable. Sorry we missed the V-J Day, but from what we have heard the occasion went off pretty quietly. In any event, the V-E Day was the big one, so perhaps there was not the same spur towards hilarity. ; RK KR It is quite possible that we have missed some happenings in the community last week that other- wise would have formed the basis for news of a personal or general nature, but we have tried to catch up with the main items this week'. If there are some omissions, it must be blamed on the holiday and we particularly hope that no service man or woman has re- turned during the interval with- out due mention in the paper. ee KKK In The Haileyburian this week appears again a list of those from the community who enlisted for active service during the war years. This list which was last published on~May 10 of this year has been revised to the very best of our ability with the help of readers who have called our at- tention to errors in the interval. We believe it is now correct and all-inclusive, and if this is the case, it will not be published again. The town and surround- ing district may well be proud of this record, and to those who have lost loved ones we extend our sincere sympathy. It is about all we have had the privilege ot doing through the war years, and we hope that the Honor Roll is complete and correct. KKKKE In spite of dry, hot weather there is every appearance of a bountiful harvest from the gar- dens and fields this year. In all sections of the community there are fine displays of late sutnmer flowers, while the vegetables seem to have progressed quite favor- ably. Fruit crops, however, are rather light, having suffered from the late spring frosts, but in some places there will be a fairly good yield. On the whole, the season has been a pretty satisfactory one and there should be no com- plaints. The Chilean gov- ernment pays through this plan full pay to those who have served the country for thirty years or have attained the age of fifty-- yery different from Canada, not until the age of seventy or sixty- five where it is necessary. A country's greatness is not measured in square miles or the wealth by the dividends it pays but by the number of people who have served the country well and are not haunted by the ghost of one of the Freedoms of the "At- lantic Charter"'--Want.
