(Ketch) Ketcheson who will address a public meet- ing May 21st, in the Legion hall, is one of those rare birds who can define a sportsman. The secretary of the Carling Conservation Club, who estimates he has travelled 300,000 miles in the last 15 years to deliver ad- dresses on conservation says ofa sportsman, "He takes only what he can use." "Only through education can we prevent destruction,' he adds. "Individual greed can rob this country of its forests, its birds, its animals and its fish and once t man shoots or catches or destroys more than he can use he is no longer a sportsman." Ketch, born in Belleville and now residing at Wyndwyck farm on the outskirts of Napanee, is 56 and says he became hepped on ,conservation as a boy when he saw "the countryside and the wild life going to pieces because of man's greed." He's been at it €ver since and figures the real sal vation lies in the education of youth. He was a founder of the Junior Sportsmen's Club and firmly believes that all associa- tions should sponsor youngsters' section Ketch is founder and past presi- dent of the and Adding ton Fish and Game Protective Association, after years as president, and is a director of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and hunters. Also, he's a mem- ber of the Reforestation commit- tee for North Fredericksburg township and he recently comple ted a three-months speaking tour that took him across the length and breadth of Ontario. He en listed with the Argyll Light In fantry in the First Great War and served overseas with the Ca nadian Scottish, being invalided home late in 1917. He was public relations organizer for the Otta- wa' Valley on six Victory Loan drives in the Second Great War. and assisted on stamp drives and Lennox five Red Cross campaigns in Eastern Iaaties Police Force for Ontario. Temagami Tourist Camp His address to the Fish and Game Protective Association and Service Clubs will be illustrated by a series of-cgnservation and outdoor films which point up the necessity of conserving Canada's heritage of forests, soil and. wild life. Former Haileybury Goalie Passes Away in Florida William C. Nicholson, 68, of Valois, Que., who, back around the early 1900's was quite a fig- ure in Montreal hockey circles, and who tended goal for Hailey- bury in 1908-09 when this town and Cobalt had teams in the pro: league, died on Monday of this week in Miami, Florida. After leaving Haileybury Big Bill was with Toronto Tecumsehs for a time. A brother, Wallie, died a few years ago in the Porcupine district. W.M.S. Annual Meeting at Englehart Next Week The twenty-first annual meet- ing the Temiskaming Presbyter- ial of the Woman's Missionary Society of the United church will be held in the United church, En- glehart on Thursday May 15. He has secured about an acre of ground south of the village and close to the government motor park, and has already erected some cabins and other buildings, where summer visitors will find good accommodation. Mr. Penner spent some time at the Hailey- bury headquarters of the force prior to his bieng appointed to the Temagami post and has many friends throughout the district. Constable Harry Morel, who has been at headquarters for some months past, has taken over the duties of the Temagami post.
