Fishermen took over the doubtful honor of first place by a long lead with 262 convictions; hunters placed second with forty-seven and thirty-two trapping convic- ions were noted. Of the men® convicted under. the fishing regulations, 121 pos- 'sessed fish in a closed season. Convictions for other forms of poaching and other irregularities included fifty-five men who fish- ed by other means than angling; nineteen who had illegal posses- sion of gill nets; ten who fished smelt without a license; ten who used artificial lights to take fish; seven who had more than their legal limit; six who had under- sized fish and three who fished with more than one line. But the pay off was the case of two men who attempted to take fish from a government fish hatchery rearing pond. Two also attempted to obstruct a conserva- _tion officer in carrying out his duties.
