Timber Crew Engaged in "Sweeping" of the Lake oi years. A timber crew from the Upper Ottawa Improvement Company, which handles the towing of logs from the head of Lake Temiska- ming to the foot, is engaged this week in the interesting operation of "sweeping" the lake. This consists of gathering up all the stray logs that have escaped from the booms and getting them in shape for towing down to Temis- kaming, Que., to the mills. The men use an "alligator" for power and have their own quarters in a houseboat mounted on a large scow. Most of the timber lands along the shores, but there is a certain amount that remains out on the lake surface and interferes with navigation. The "sweeping" is usually done twice in the open season.
