New English Movie Named After Young Star Mandy Miller (Continued from Page 1) der Mackendrick, who was~ then shooting "The Man in the White Suit". Mackendrick needed aa youngster for a bit part in the movie and asked if he could use young Miss Miller. Later, when he was about' to make a picture about the problems of deaf children and their struggle for education, he remembered the child's acting in the bit part. One test for the exacting leading roie in his new film sufficed to reveal the remarkable talent of Mandy Not only can she communicate the most delicate and intense emo- tions, she performs like a profes- sional overshadowing such sea- soned troupers as Phyllis Cal- vert, Terence Morgan and Jack Hawkins. The story is that of a deaf girl who learns to speak and Mandy has helped bring to the screen impressive and heartening exam- ples of the little known miracles performed year after year at schools for deaf children. With the exception of the young star and one or two others, all of the children in the film are inmates of one of the world's foremost schools for the deaf at Manchest- er where several scenes were filmed, Ackroyd and Son ACCOUNTANTS Costs and Records Income Tax and Government Returns Bookkeeping Service.
