Facilities Extended To Local Home Builders Geologists, mining men, factory Tepresentatives and others in ever increasing numbers would like to settle in Haileybury but it's the old story of no housing accommodation. Because many of them express- ed a desire to build here if a financing plan could be secuted Mayor A H. Cooke has been Shes strumental in having the lending facilities of the N.H.A. extended to Haileybury. In a letter to R. C. Ballard, Central Mortgage and* Housing Corporation at North Bay, Mr. Cooke pointed out that Hailey- bury has no debts and no deben- tures, low assessment and tap rate and excellent schooling faci- lities. Moreover, 'he said, 1t isa beautiful residential town -and ideal for this type of resident. In his reply, Mr. Ballard stated that the lending facilities of the N.H.A. can be extended to Hail- eybury district provided the var- ious applicants qualify under N.H. A. requirements. Normally, most N.H.A. loans are handled on a joint basis with a lending institution but in municipalities of 5,000 or under, Central Mortgage handles the complete loan when it is approved. House design booklets with available information are now in Mr. Cooke's hands, so that any- one interested in the plan may get their information from him. The only change in the literature should be the interest rate which is now 5%4% and the applicant applies direct to the North Bay office rather than a lending in- stitution. , Questionnaires and application forms are also available to be completed in triplicate asnrd for- warded to the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporationat North Bay. Approved sets of plans may be procured at a cost of $10.00a set of four. It takes more courage to speak face to face with a brother about what you consider his shortcom ings or his perils than it does to use the pen or the press to shoot at him from the cover of a bit of paper. It takes more courage to be honest and modestly frank than it does to smile and pretend friendship when behind another's back, you listen to others attack him and, by your silence, condone the things said. It takes more courage to admit blunder--than it does to excuse your way past it. Since mining first started in the Sudbury district of Northern On- tario, 41 mines have produced 3334,000,000,000 pounds of nickel ore. 'My son has chosen banking" When a bank manager retired last year, he wrote his General Manager to tell why he was proud his son also had chosen a banking career: "T shall always recall my banking days _ with pleasure and I cannot think of any other occupation that gives one a greater opportunity to meet people and form lasting friendships. I have been privileged to,serve the bank in three provinces... That my son has chosen banking is also a great satisfaction to me. : He is most anxious to make good on his own account." Any young man on the lookout for an z interesting and worthwhile career-- : for opportunities to grow and get | ahead--should take a look at banking. Have a talk with the bank manager in your neighborhood branch. It may well prove an important turning point in your life. There is, for instance, the ever-popular Canadian Cheddar, which is sold according to age as few (mild) medium, and old (strong). Process cheese is another favorite. It is made from Cheddar whieh is ground and heated to pasteurization tempera- ture, then poured into moulds. or packages to solidify, Also, many types> of foreign cheese are now manufac tured in Canada, For more than 75 years, Canadian cheese had been noted for its fine qua- lity. At the Philadelphia exhibition in 1875, Canadian cheese took top honors but it did not stop with winnnig the sweepstakes. There have been great improvements in the cheese industry here and we can now boast of having some of the finest tasting cheese in the world. In spite of all this, Canadian only use 4.7 pounds of cheese per per- son in a year, less than half that eaten by our neighbors to the south and far less than that consumed in many Eu ropean countries, JUNO SAUCERS The world may have lost more than it has gained by modern sophistica- tion. It is questionable whether it is better to Know something about meter- ology than to*hear the hammer of Thor or the voice of Jove in a thunder storm. The makers of myths at least would have invented a plausible expla- nation for the flying saucers. Perhaps the saucers, had they appeared in clas- sical days, would have been a mani- testation of a domestic disagreement between Jupiter and Juno. The god- dess had frequent cause for the crockery at her husband, who, like most of the old gods, had a roy- ing eye. Gods and goddesses of today are more respectable, 'duller. The best that modern myth-makers can do with the flying saucers, if they believe them to be anything but mir- ages, 1s to mumble something about fnterplanetary travel. It's a weak explanation. A Greek conld have in- vented a dozen better myths about the phenomenon and had them all believed by someone. WEDNESDAY (DOMINION NETWORK) ROBERT H. SAUNDERS, C.B.E., 0.6.
