We almost got sort of choked up to see all those grateful citi- zens that the public servants hear from every day all year, pushing their the front to give the boys at pat on the back. The other day, Arthur Meighen warned the peope of the democ- way to racies who are weary of the struggle for survival. The doc- trines.of Communism have im- bued the Russian people with "un- doubted willingness to toil and endure." It's like carrying coals to Newcastle to repeat that here because after Thursday's demon- stration, it is apparent that no one in Haileybury intends to end up in the salt mines. They'll still be sitting on the shores of Lake Temiskaming when the last atom has been dropped. These run automatic. It was my idea to have the heating the same, because the boiler in the pump-house is very old and may break down at any time. No matter what people say this heating system is not- satis- factory. Why, when they havea large boiler in the place do they have to have a coal stove going full blast as well? The reason is that the heating system is set up very poorly and you cannot put a large fire in the boiler. It builds up too much pressure due to poor circulation and it blows the water out of the boiler. This is very dangerous. This applies tothe filtration plant as well. The chlorination ot the water is done by putting chlorine in the water in gas form. If the room in which the machine is located is not kept at a certain tempera- ture, the chlorine goes into wa- ter in liquid form instead of gas, which is not good. Therefore is it not better to get rid of the heating system that Noah had in the ark and bring our pump house up to date? Where Mr, Lecky got the figure of 20% to 50% more for oil, I would like to know. I will say that some burners may run 20% more in large homes; but it must be remembered that when people use automatic heating they do not a grand MERRY Train Travel anywhere . at all Canadian National CANADIAN yEW way to say CHRISTMAS For those you love, make this Christmas an event they'll never forget! If oil burners are installed pro- perly there is nothing better. But they should not be a cheap burn- er. The proper furnace or boiler means a lot on the amount of oil used, We intend using one boiler to heat both buildings, instead of two boilers and a_stove with alot of stovepipes hnaging-all over the place. The pump-house is one place that should be fireproof above above all else. Wooden stairs were put in last year without consulting the rest of the council, until after they were installed. I feel sure permission would not have been granted. As far as I can see, they were installed to save shovelling about éystem, not a hot air system- "Phere were no bids asked for this work, else would do the job as cheaply as | am doing it. | hope~ this letter explains everything as I am sick of the childish way things have been going on.
