THE HAILEYBURIAN S61. Ue AUVOUETE: "SAAHL Citak, That this is a call for all recruits to see that the life of the commu- nity stays in high gear this year .... the Recreation Committee meets next week and as we re- calk several organizations did not send representatves last \ear . . as we see it, any organ- ization which does not see to it that there is a good turn-out at this meeting does not deserve any support from the commit- tee...and this community is only as good, as every organization in it which benefits every indi- vidual in it ... so club members and citizens please take note that Haileybury will not run it- self. esses That Dr. George Johnson, Pro- fessor of New Testament Liters ature and Exegesis at Emmanue] College, Toronto, got his first taste of curling last week in Tim- mins, where he took the service last week for a fellow minister, Rev. A. P. Addison...Dr. John- sorr who has been supplying in the summer months for several years here told us that he was reminded of the:story of the min- ister who took up®* curling and understood that one started off as lead andadvanced each year.. four years rolled by and clouds of despair descended as he did not move up....finally his. wife could stand it no longer and said John, "you always say the answer is in the Good Book so you had better meditate for awhile... he did and three hours later, burst through the study door jubilantly crying "I've . found it".... "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone." oO That Aunt Mary says that Spring is here...maybe to stay ...on Monday morning the birds were chirping and the ice was melting and she just melted with it all, got out her new shopping bag and her new suit and head- ed off to the village to see about a new Easter bonnet ...she was so happy, she spoke to everybody she passed and then she went to cross the road...the chirping of the birds in her ears reached a symphonic crescendo as a long, low, two-tone 1955 model swept by, spewing up the mud and the snow and the water ..... Aunt Mary said she'd have phoned the license in to the OPP if she could have seen anything, instead she went right back home. OES That from all over Northern Ontario they will come to the Northern Ski Club's Recreational week-end next Saturday and Sunday...to take to the hills in the early dawn and ski to their heart's content...and it's not just confined to skiers either for on Saturday night, the Tri-Town party goers will join the guests for a party and dance to wind up a wonderful winter season at Cross Lake which seems to have come and gone as quickly as it takes to go up the tow and down the highest hill again. Ree That the Rebekahs do a lot of fine work...not just for the Re- bekahs either...at a bingo on Monday night, Mrs. Percy Oth- mer won the $25.00 door prize and Mrs. Eric Greering won the steam iron...and all the money raised will bring cheer to those who suffer from any of the ill- nesses, cancer, polio and tuber- culosis...the C, P. and T. Fund of the Rebekahs...this Saturday the Association will be hard at it again, selling produce at the for- mer Sharp's Bakery in Hailey- bury.. "erKe That a week from tomorrow, Friday, March 4th, the annual Oratorical Contest sponsored by the Secondary Teachers' Federa- tion will be held in the Schools Auditorium...this is the very first time that this interesting debate has been held anywhere other than in North Bay and Sud- bury ... so that the opportunity is here and we should all make a she clapped her hand down over note of Friday and be in the Auditorium. soto That the days and the weeks are only brightened by the nice things that we do....last week, we think you ought to know that the bus load of Leo Labine's friends sent a big bouquet to Catherine Wiseman, who is illin hospital and Haileybury fans at home sent flowers to Leo's moth- er...and the Committe in charge would like to thank each and every one who helped in so many ways to make the whole tribute to Leo such a fine success. Jo} OI OK That ice wise, we have several pats on the back tucked away... to Pat Thompson, Skating Club Professional for skating a lovely solo at the "Pop" concert on a sheet of pure water..... and on the hockey lanes...to Clarence Connelly, Chick Grozelle and Art Stollery for a season of splendid work with the GM Rockets. RE That the High School Inspee- tor was wending his way from room to room this week but how were the pupils to know?...one wary student was hard ata problem when suddenly someone leaned over her shoulder and a hand came down on the desk... suspecting a neighborly theft, bang! ..with ful] force _fage Three Condensed Advertisements Will Bring Quick!
