Besides greatly increasing the quarters for the permanent coun- cil staff, two of the most im- portant features of the new headquarters will be an enlarged library and provision of assemb|. room. "The Atkinson Charitable Foundation has very generously agreed to equip the library and assembly room by reason of a $9,333,45 grant. and | am sure this investment will prove a real contribution toward meeting problems in new and uncharted areas of the social welfare field." said R. E. G. Davis, Canadian Welfare Council executive secre- tary. The library is of prime impor- ince to the Welfare Council in all phases of its operations. and to those dependent on the coun- cil for assistance, Mr. Davis ex- plained. The Assembly Room likewise will greatly improve headquarters facilities In the past it has been necessary to engage outside quarters for meetings at extra cost to the council. The assembly room as planned will accommodate 100 persons and will be suitable for difficulties. the study workshops. conferences committee meetings and other activities involving large and small groups. "Primarily the library is being reorganized to provide informa- tion in the searching studies of social welfare problems, and this material is available to all pro- fessions." said Mr-Davis. "A special effort is made to collect and preserve material not found elsewhere. Canadian social wel- fare literature, unpublished sur- veys and reports, documents prepared by the council "itself. are among the items of its por- ticular concern.
