Lt. Basil Craddock left last week for a new post in Newmarket. Henceforth the charge is to be jointly headed by two young officers who yesterday (preached their welcome services in both towns. They are 2nd Lt. Wilmot Linder, 25 of Woodstock, N.B. and Lt. 'Reginald Gage, 33 of Brampton. Both single, the officers say, "We are here to serve the resid- ents of the towns--practically and spiritually." Lt. ARCHIE ALBANY Well known in the district as a guide and trapper, Archie Al- bany of Mowatt's Landing died at Haileybury Hospital on June 30th. Funeral services were held on July 2nd, with burial in the fam- ily plot at Mowatt's Landing. Mr. Albany was in his 55th year. He is survived by three sisters Mrs. Katt of Bear Island; ~Mrs. Coleman of Chalk River, Mrs. Mrs. Martin of Mowatt's Land- ing, and a brother, Peter Albany, who lives at the family home at Red Pine on the Montreal River. WILLIAM GEORGE EVANS Passed away suddenly in St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto on Monday, June 20th, William George Evans in his 79th year, formerly of Haileybury. Mr. Evans was born in Belfast, Ire- land, on Dec. 15th, 1875. He came to Canada in 1909, where he resided until a few years after the fire. He was married in Ireland. His wife predeceased him in Haileybury in 1922. He is survived by nine children. They are Tillie in Toronto, Wil- liam in Hamilton, Samuel in Kirkland Lake, George in British Columbia, Eddie in Welland Nellie (Mrs. Norman Shortt) in New Liskeard, Clifford in Toron- to, Lloyd in New Liskeard and Muriel (Mrs. I. D. Furgeson) in Toronto. A son James, died overseas in 1944. Also surviving are nine grandchildren. The funeral services were held from the Ingram funeral home in Toronto, June 23rd at 1.30 p.m. with Rev. J, E. McMillan offi- ciating. Pallbearers were his five sons, William, Samue:,, /ddie Clifford and Lloyd and his son- in-law, Norman Shortt. George was unable to attend his father's funeral. WILLARD Mrs. Annie Willard, 77, a re- _ sident of North Cobalt, highly esteemed in her church and the community, died on Sunday, June 26th, after an illness of two years.. She had been a resident of the Tri-Town area for four- teen years. RK 'rly Annie Timms, she was matried at New. Liskeard to Charles Willard who survives ner. Also surviving are her two sons and two daughters Bill Willard, another son, died in the service of the RCAF in 1943. A daughter, Lucy Ann. died in infancy in 1913. Long a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist church and active in welfare work, her funeral service was held on Tuesday at 2 o'clock with Pas- tor I. H. Helm of the Soventh Day Adventist Church Hailey- bury, officiating. The service was conducted at Tulioch's funeral home. where the remains of Mrs. Willard had been resting. Burial was in the Milherta Cemetery. Haileybury Boy Home From Northwest Territories Kenneth Burton, who has re- sently arrived home from the Yellowknife. area in the North- west Territories to visit with his mother, Mrs. Harry Burton, visited at the office and showed some very interesting pictures of that territory, He also told about living 'conditions at the camp at Discovery Mine, which are exceptionally good. At Xmas time they enjoyed grapes, ban- anas and oranges and other com- forts and luxuries of - home. Leliever ,Toronto, an old time resident of town and Mrs. Geo, Ferry were here the past week renewing old acquain- tances. Mr. Mr. Leliever and son Patrick arrived on Monday and accompanied them home. Sandra and Rickie, Mr. Akerland and Miss Edna Fern- holm motored to Deer Lake and spent the past weekend, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Wallace and family of Renfrew, former residents of Haileybury, spent the holiday weekend visiting Mrs. Wallaces's mother, Mrs. J. Gutcher, Miss Pauline Morissette, dau- ehter of Mr. and Mrs. N. Moris- sette, has returned from Toron- to where she has been working.
