One of the most enjoyunie and amusing evenings was_ held at the Golf Club last Thursday, July 28th. when Joe Kirkwood the worlds most famous golfer entertained a lager crowd for over an hour to spectacular golf shots. Whether familiar one was with the game or not, Joe, with his sharp wit and keen humor punctuated his display With comments and imitations of how some players of both sexes performed when getting ready to take a shot which 'was a delight to the audience. _ His trick array of clubs range from the normal to the ridicu- lous and he drew a sharp repri- mand from a Scotchman on the sidelines when he used a_ tee With an anchor attached, ex- plaining this was what they used in Scotland. He also used a sling shot to carry the elusive ball over the green. No matter what club he used he could put the ball any place he wanted it to go. ~: Before this exhibition a nine hole round was played by Joe Kirkwood, Mery. Stoughton and Harry Kemp, New Liskeard and "Cuffy" Dixon, Kirkland Lake. Some excellent golf was wit- nessed with Joe shocting a 34 two below par, Stoughton 36, H. Kemp 37 and Dixon 44. Mr. Kirkwood who lives in Daytona Beach, Fla., was ac- companied north by his twin sons Ron and Ken, 12 years olds, who know a lot about golf from their famous father and acted as caddies for him, A chicken dinner at rounded off the day. the club " * 2 WITH THE ALGONQUINS AT PETAWAWA SSM Bob Trott and Capt.
