Mr. and Mrs. RK. R. Thonpe of Niagara Falls were weekend vis- itors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hughes. While here Mrs. Thorpe unveiled the memorial plaque on the cenotaph at New Liskeard, Mr. and Mrs. Borden Caswell of Sudbury, with their sons Don- ald an dGerald, visited Mr. and Mrs Sam Hughes last weekend. Keith was the marksman, by the way. Alex Mosher left Haileybury yesterday for New York, on the first leg of a journey to Ger- many. Mr. Mosher will leave N. York November 17 and fly by Luft Hansa Airlines to Frank- furt. He expects to be in West Ger- many for two or three weeks discussing business matters, and will return via London, England. BORN--To Mr. and Mrs. Bud Dempster, at Misericordia Hospital, on Saturday, Novem- ber 5th, 1955, a son, Neil Erik, Mrs. Howard Hazlett of King- ston arrived in town last week to spend the winter with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Demp- ster. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Gooding and daughters of North Bay, visited Mrs. Gooding's mother, Mrs. E. Grant over the week-end. Mr. Gooding's mother also accomp- anied them. Anglican Church Bazaar There will be fancy work tab- les, candy and white elephant tables when the Women's Assoc- iation of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Haileybury hold their bazaar next Saturday. The concert will be held at the Community Memor- ial Hall in New Liskeard, Wed- nesday, November 16th at 8.30 p-m. : Henryk Szerynk was born in Warsaw in 1918. While very young he studied under the direction of Carl Flesch who pre- sented him at the age of 13 with Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra before a public who acclaimed him. Shortly afterwards he won the first prize at Le Conservatoire de Paris. He made his first con- cert tour in Rumania. Shortly after 1943 he had great success in Paris with the Symphony Or- chestra of this Capital. In Vienna he obtained great success for his exceptional inter- pretation of Brahms Concerto; in 1935 he was decorated with "L'Ordre du Merite Culturel", in appreciation for his exceptional artistic career. A series of concerts which he gave with La Societe des Con- certs du Conservatoire et 1 Or- chestre Lamoureux et Pasdeloup made him take his place among the greatest violonist of our time. Szerynk has been acclaim- ed by all South America, the United States and Canada. This great violonist who is comparable with Heifetz, Muil- stein, Menuhin, has been acclaim- ed by the press throughout the world. Even though he is still very young his career has been crowned with triumph in Paris, London, Vienna, _Brusselles; Madrid, Lisbon, Barcelona, New York, Mexico, Havana, Buenos Aires and all teh principal cities of the American Continent. He has played under the direct- ion of such eminent mastros as Bruno Walter, Pierre Monteux, E. Kleiber, Artur Rodzinsky, Sir Malcolm Sargent, Albert Wolff, Paul Paray, Desire Defauw, -E. Cooper, éte. Since 1946 he became a Mex- ican citizen and the Government of this country has endowed him the mission of proclaiming Mex- ican music throughout the world. He won the first prize for record- ing in 1955 in France. Henry Szerynk is probably the greatest artist ever to accept a tour with the Jeunesses Music- ales of Canada. It is a unique op- portunity for all to hear this great virtuoso. He will be ac- companied by Charles Reiner, well known Montreal pianist. (Ken) Boyce who passed away suddenly Friday morning at his home at Upper Notch Hy- dro Plant , was held from the Perrin Funeral Chapel on Mon- day afternoon. Rev. Geo. United service, Brown of Cobalt Church conducted the Well-known in Hydro circles, Mr. Boyce had 25 years service with the Ontario Hydro, being employed as an operator at the Upper Notch Power Plant. He started in 1929 with the Northern Ontario Power Comp- any at Indian Chutes, continuing with Ontario Hydro after the amalgamation of this Company. He took an active interest in the Hydro Employees' Associat- ion, becoming Chief Stewart for the New Liskeard Area. Born in Braeside Ontario in 1902, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs, Milton Boyce of Haileybury. In 1931 he married the former Ann Fisher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fisher of New Lisk- eard, Besides his wife, he leaves three children, Muriel, Glen and Brenda, two sisters, Mrs. E. Lavergne of Ottawa, Mrs. E. J. Simpson of Agincourt Ontario and one brother Harryof Ottawa. Pallbearers were Hydro men, Sylvester Speck, Alex Strang, Fred Lewis, Warren Fernholm, Paul Nedeau and Ross MacDoug- all, -Hydro representatives attend- ed the funeral from North Bay, Kirkland Lake and Timmins. Interment was in New Lisk- eard Cemetery. WEDDING BELLS McNAIR -- IRVING A wedding of interest to Hail- burians took place recently in Hamilton, Sheila Margaret Irv- ing, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Irving, was married to Ron- ald Julian McNair, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Burce McNair. Miss Irving is the grand-dau- ghter of the late Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Thorpe of Haileybury.
