The Rotary park, the long sweep of Lake Temiskaming, could anything be nicer' In the summer we can sit by the hour and watch the kids in the park, or the growd on the beach. and in the winter the crisp snow sparkles in the sun and the Lake has its own pecul- lar attractions. But right now it looks some- thing awful, and we don't blame anyone for going to Florida. The Rotary park is dead and lifeless. There are still odd pat- ches of snow under the trees, The ice is still on the Lake, and wonder if it is leave.[t's been a winter, and sometimes we ever going to long and rough summer 15 overdue. The power of spiritual and material help without question has sur- mounted all barriers. The Salvation Army has mar- ched beyond the doors of stately churches. It has carried the gos- pel of the Samaritan to the scenes of squalor and poverty and suffering, to the horrors ot battle fields, to the terrors of disaster. When those stricken look up, the hand of The Army is there to help them. ] Organization of the Salvation Army appears to have less red tape than any other in the world. In emergency, The Army succor appears by magic. There are no fanfares, no headlines, no forms in triplicate, no legislation de- bates, no chest thumping, no dunning for funds and fees, and no question of color, condition or creed. There is hope for the spirit, food for the hungry, to those who need either. And with all go the friendly smiles and str- ong helping hands of the men and women workers, throughout Canada the Red Shield Appeal of The Salvation Army will, it is certain, be war- mly supported.
