A. Day was looking down at the Monday night meeting of our town cou- neil, he must have chuckled wryly at the sight of the town fathers being iorced to do what he had consistently proposed should be done, The late mayor had said seve- ral times that Haileybury had substantial cash reserves stashed away in various accounts, and that the money should be used for paving the streets. But he was always voted down. It seems that the Ontario Board agrees, and the town now finds that it has $65,000 in rq serves, of which, at the Munici- pal Board's insistence, $40,000 are to be used for paving. The strongest opponent of using any part of the town's reserves was Councillor Dan Millar, and it is unfortunate that he could not be present to give his views. We would not suggest that money should be put aside for special purposes, but we do re- gret that Mr, Day isn't here to see his opinions justified. The North Bay Nugget, a paper for which we have a great deal of respect, has described us as being "cantankerous." And it has mentioned what it terms, "our magnificent brand of sar- casm."" We strongly resent being termed cantankerous. We are in fact, at all times, reasonable, mild tempered and agreeable. It is true that between breakfast and supper we are inclined to write rude things about people, but if they didn't annoy us while our digestion was getting into gear, we wouldn't rile them in print. ; After supper we can usually be relied upon to write nothing Walter "Ackroyd PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT New Liskeard : Ontario Phones 442 and 442-B MURRAY McKINNON Your MUTUAL LIFE Representative 72 Nickel -- Cobalt Dial 4519 9.22.22525522355255 24245404 | FOX CARTAGE & STORAGE LTD. Sometimes we calla spade a blasted shovel, but that is mer- ely a human weakness, not sar- casm. Ask any of our friends, we are not cantankerous. And if they say anything different we'll knock their bloomin' heads off. WEDDING BELLS of Haileybury and the groom is the son of Mrs. Margaret Wil- son Of New Liskeard and the late John Wilson.
