THURSDAY, m JAN, -17th, 1957 THE HAILEYBURIAN Page Three Civil Service News By Jack Hetherington R. R. No. 3 New Liskeard The initial meeting for 1957 of the South Temiskaming Bra- nch of The Civil Service Assoc- iation of Ontario was held in New Liskeard. on Friday, Jan- uary llth. Our new President Mr. Michael Marks, was in the chair and all other members of the staff and executive were on hand but one. Mr. Marks welcomed the new members and expressed his be- lief that 1957 would prove to be a-'very successful year both for the Branch and for the Associ- ation as a whole. The social angle of our Branch was rather neglected last year. Ray Fisher had made a fair start on it but he was transferred to Cochrane and no one else did very much about it. 'The President gave his views on the importance of a vigorous social committee and stressed that the unity of the Branch would be reflected in their ef- forts. The other committees are important but the cohesion of all Departments in the Civil Service depends to a marked ex- tent on the efforts of 'Social'. ing that regardless of how good Of course it goes without say- ing that regardless of how good a committee we have, their ef- forts are of no avail without the co-operation of all members of the Service regardless of their Department or affiliations. Looking at the Association as a whole, it has had considerable success during 1956 in it's et- forts to improve the lot of all who are employed by the .Pro- vince of Ontario. To conduct it's affairs to best advantage, the Association requires the full co-operation of all employees and these are requested to make certain that they become mem- bers if they are eligible to do so whether approached by a can- vasser or not. Only by becom- ing a member does one receive The Trillium, our own magaz- ine, and find out what the As- sociation is doing. In the various committees, the first named is the Chairman who has the authority to select any additional help required. The President, Mr. Marks, is of authomatically a mem- course ber of all committees.
