We indeed are happy to have them here in this year our fittieth anniver- sary of the club. The ladies section first started in 1924 with Mrs. Adair being the first president of the ladies section. There were four rinks as only members wives were allowed to curl at first later they decided others could join and make it more interesting. They curled at this time for three years. Ness McAulay and Tess Austin curled at that time. It was a ve.y successful 'spiel'. The ladies irom Cobalt joined the club in 1°50 and eavh year there are more joining. With the building of the new tink in 1951 the members became more enthusastic than ever, and this year with artificial ice longer and better curling is cettainly assured and we are very happy with the increased membership. The tankard play downs for the ladies is being held here January 25, and 26, when we hope to see some fine curling The ladies of the curling club hope the Scottish Curlers en- joy their visit to Haileybury and will carry back pleasant memor- ies when they return to Scot- and, Looking up old records we came across an item in March 12th issue 1925 of the Hailey- burian. where a_ team of lady rutlers visited New Liskeard and played with a rink of ladies from that town meeting defeat to the tune of 4-1 in a six end. In those days six end games were the popular number to play for the Ladies. In February 1926. the Ladies decided to organize a_ club and Mrs. Wm. Adair was elected president. layed for three years when the club disbanded. Re-organized in 1943 with Mrs. E. McDonough being elect- ed president. These games were in the old rink on the shore of the Lake. Built new rink in 1951 with Mrs. N. McAulay president that year. * Mr. Fred Thompson and son Roy Thompson spent many hours assisting the Ladies learn the roaring game beside several of the Ladies husbands helping also. 1926--Local rinks won the three events in the bonspiel here with E. E, Smith's four taking the Lee and Moysey trophies and F. \V. Thompson, the consol- ation, At the same bonspiel two rinks from North Bay defeated two local rinks and carried off the Englehart trophy. . .1936--Haileybury rinks won many prizes at a_bonspiel in New Liskeard where 60 rinks from North Bay, Timmins South Poreupine, Noranda, Kirkland Lake, Englehart, Haileybury and New Liskeard competed.
