THURS. OCTOBER~ 24th, 1957 _ _THE HAJLEYBURIAN = COBALT WEEKLY POST Page Five Across. the Kitchen Table 4 « By Mrs. Mac. es POSS RES CISA OC Rn If there is anything in this members from all over Canada world that upsets a dignified at- will meet in the Chateau Lauriet titude, it's being at a Bantam, in Ottawa for the first National ball game when one of the play- ers is one's grandson, and half of the others are neighbor's boys, and they are all, from the small- est to the tallest, working to- gether as a team, trying to win the All-Ontario Bantam Cham- pionship. That's where I was during the Thanksgiving week-end, watch- ing the New Liskeard Bantams play a team as good a's they were from Galt. The first game went into the second half of the ninth inning without a single run be- ing scored, before Liskeard fin- ally made it. The second game _was even more exciting, tied in the second inning at 2-2 and staying that way until the last half of he seventh inning when, (the Lord forgie' me for sinful pride!) my grandson clouted a . home run that also brought Bill Glashan home on the third and making the score 4-2. The ex- citement surrounding the laun- ching of Russia's Sputnik was as nothing compared to ours and the winning ball is now reposing in state on the top shelf of my bookcase. IKK Not long ago I read some- thing regarding the rapid in- crease in the moose popluation in Ontario but judging from the number of horns that are pass- ing through town both on and in cars, it should be somewhat less at the end of the moose season. = HARKER Next week, from October 28, to the 31, Women's Institute Convention. It should be not only interest- ing but educational,as well, to hear the views of other women and to learn something of the way Institutes operate in other provinces, I feel véry proud that I was chosen to represent: South Temiskaming Institute-members at this convention. I will be leaving for Ottawa Saturday night, in company with Mrs. Bert Brownlee, of Englehart, who is the delegaté for Centre Temiskaming, and Mrs. George Ash, our provincial board mem- ber, and I hope, when I return, to be able to report, to all bra- nches in the district, about what happened during the "four-day sessions. SK OOK Strawberries in October ? Sounds good, doesn't it? And that is what we have here in the office this (Monday) morning. D. A. Gorrie of Port Hope, holidaying in the north, brottght in two lovely ripe berries from the garden of T. C. Swartman in New Liskeard. The northland is establishing a name for it's self, isn't it?
