I guess it's true that as you get older, you slow down, or up, or something, anyway, I was slow enough for the 'flu to catch up with me for the second time you, it's no fun. And to make matters worse, my aunt got a touch of ipneu- monia at the same time. How- ever, | got back to work: last Thursday, and my. aunt is im- proving too, so things are look- ing a bit rosier around the Mc- Donald mansion again. As many of you know, I spent the week of October 28, to 31, in Ottawa as a delegate to the first National convention of the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada and to say that I was thrilled is putting it mildly. To attend and take part in a meeting of over four hundred women, from every province in Canada, whose main aim was tu plan for the advancement anu bettering of all things pertain- ing to Canadian women, to hear them bring little bits of dis~ agreement out into the open and discuss them until all the wrinkles were ironed out, to vote, to the best of ones know- ledge on the questions arising from the discussions, is an ex- perience that will be a tres sured memory to the end o life. And I think the best part was at the close of the last session, when Mrs. Nancy Adams, the retiring National president, saiu "After four years work as you. president, wondering at times we -were accomplishing any thing, now, at the end, at o: first National convention, yo. have given me the greatest gift of all, unity and harmony |, tween all the provinces". The convention was a full on:, with mornings, afternoons and evenings all filled. Being a first, there were many things about it that could have been_ better planned, the most serious fault being too many speakers and not enough discussion groups but that is a fault found in all conventions, It was particularly pleasing to know that ~the four northern districts were all represented, North Cochrane by Mrs. Dodds, of Clute, South Cochrane by Mrs ._ M. Cadeau of Matheson, Centér Temiskaming by Mrs. Bert Brownlee of Englehart and South Temiskaming by myself, and that all of our voices were in the discussions and also that Pick-Up and , Delivery WE SELL THE BEST. Parents and teachers ~are re- minded the Young Canada Book Week is coming up and will he observed during the week of November 15, to 22. This would bea golden op- portunity for mothers to bring their young children to the Library and introduce them to the many excellent books that are available for them. Teachers. too, could interest their pupils in reading the better books pro- vided for their enjoyment. Stars given for each library book read during the month might be the incentive needed to help turn the tide of comic book reading into a wave of enjoyment edic- ational information. It is now 75 years since Ro- bert Koch discovered the tuber- cle bacillus and established the fact that tuberculosis was a communicable disease. His dis- covery was, the» foundation for the modern fight against TB. Prior to that time the belief that it was hereaditary and in- curable blocked advance against it. GIRL GUIDE NEWS By Germaine Charbonneau On November 21th, the Girl Guides held their weekly meet- ing at the auditorium.
