Barr was returned by acclamation for his seventh term as mayor of New Liskeard at the nomination meeting held tuesday evening, November 19. Miss Edna Sumbler, a member of the present council, was also nominated for the position of mayor but declined to accept the nomination. Nominations for councillors were present councillors H. C. Sweetnam, Walter Knight, Don J. White, Miss Edna Sumbler and Charles Reid. Also nominat- ed were Charles F. Jemmett, William S, Lavery, Patrick Bolger and Rodney Armstrong Mr. Reid and Mr. Bolger both refused to let their names stand. For two year terms on the board of Education, William Ay Bowman, Ray Kosmack. Dr, F. Cc. Nelson, Thomas Gilboe, Pat- rick Bolger and Wilt Brother- hood welre nominated. The attendance at the meeting wa msuch larger than usual. UNITED CHURCH FEDERATION MEETING The regular monthly meeting of the Women's Federation was held Wednesday, evening Nov- ember 13th in the Sunday School Room of the. United Church. Mrs, J. COBALT SCOUT NEWS A meeting of the Cobalt Cub Pack was held recently and Queen's Scout Robert Heikkila who attended the Scout Jam- boree in England. last summer, assisted Cub Master W. Miller. Three new Cubs were initiated at the recent meeting. Frank Todd. Robert Jennings, and Wayne David. A game was played entitled "Mary and Joseph". A _ few of the Cubs studied for their first stars and passed their tests. Scouts Ken Aird and Peter Rob- itaille also assisted Cub Master W. Miller at the meeting. which closed with the grand Howl and "God Save The Queen". SURPRISE PARTY A pleasant surprise party was held at Mrs. Art Wilcox's home, when about thirty-five of her friends called on her Tuesday, evening before her departure for Elliot Lake. The group met at Mrs. Mar- jorie Menzies home on Cobalt Street, and went from there to the Wilcox home. A program of _ interesting games made the evening a very pleasant one. Party refresh- ments were brought by the guests and at the supper hour Mrs. Leo Scully, on behalf of the group, presented Mrs. Wil- cox with a gift as a souvenir of happy times spent in Cobalt. It was one of Mr, McLean's pho- tographs of a Northern Ontario woods road in winter, oil-strip- pled in natural colors. It was learned that Mrs. Scully was celebrating a birth- day on Tuesday and she, too, got a pleasant surprise, when following refreshments, the group sang "Happy Birthday" in her honor.. Miscellaneous Shower A surprise miscellaneous sho- wer was held Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Wright, Grandview Avenue, in honor of Mrs. Bob Wilkinson nee Sheila McGill. The co-hostesses were Miss Helen Wright and Miss Donna Burton, of North Bay.. The chair of honor in the living room had a large umbrella over it and was decorated prettily in yellow blue and white streamers with colorful balloons filled with confetti floating over the um- rella and chair. Games were the entertainment of the evening and prizes were given to the winners. Inch was chairman for the dinner sponsored by the Haileybury Canadian Legion on Rememberance Day; November 11, when approximately 19C guests were present, Grace was said by Rev. J. Mitch Deraiche, president the Haileybury Legion, gave brief outline of the branch's act ivities during the past twelve months and paid tribute to the late Mrs. J. E. Lecky. of the local. I.O.D.E., whose _ efforts were largely responsible for the presentation of a picture of thé Queen to the Legion. . THE ROTARY WHEEL Members of the Haileybury Rotary Club decided to sponsor the attendance of an outstand- ing student from the local high school at the "Adventure in Citizenship" promoted annually by the Ottawa Rotary Club.
