This affair, the brainchild of a group of civic-minded persons, was carried out in a town with a population of approximately 750 people, who are to be congratul- ated on their initiative and co- operation. Thousands of dollars in pub- licity plus many visitors in a slack time was their reward as well as an incentive to do it again. Haileybury has a population of well over two thousand, a beautiful situation on a_ well TEAM STANDING -- COBALT MEN'S ~BOWLING LEAGUE End of 2nd, Session Date 1. Lucky Seven 14 8 « 5, 2. Therefore if Foster wants it all printed, it shal] be done. But in the mean- time, we are reproducing the last paragraph of Foster's note. lt reads:--'"In the meantime, how about a few articles, either a little more for us, or consider- ably against, say the CCF, just so we will have no doubts of where the MHaileybury paper stands." Just so that Foster doesn't have any doubts, the publisher of this newspaper was Conservggive when Annie Shipley was ri high. The publisher of tHis paper was Conservative when Caddy Taylor was representing Temiskaming. And if thé Lib- erals are back in power in a year or two, as might happen, we will go on being Conservative, But if we get a little cynical, it is because we see many of the smart boys climbing on the Tory bandwagon and being regarded as party faithful. At the Conservative convent- ion in Kirkland Lake, some of the VOTING DELEGATES were the same men that we had wit- nessed enthusiastically applaud- ing C. D. Howe at the Liberal convention just six months be- fore, We are also old fashioned enough to believe that a Con- servative believes in fair play, and we are proud that in the last election this paper had guts enough to attack the, Liberals and CCF in our editorial col- umns, while we were extremely careful to give them an even break or better in our news columns. This contrasts some- what with the attitude of the New Liskeard paper, which ad- mitted in an editorial that it had kept its news coverage toa minimum because it didn't get much advertising from the politicians. We intend to follow the same policy in the future, and if this should be closer to the princip- les of Sir John A. MacDonald than the principles of some of the fair weather Tories who are now flocking to the banner, we couldn't care less. In the mean- time we are glad to hear that Foster has some fire in his eyes, and hope he will smite his foes hip and thigh, and the sooner the better. HAKREREK The broomball boys are out in force, and broomball is now a substantial money maker for the Haileybury rink, There are five ceams consisting of the Hailey- bury Hotel, OPP, Elks, and! two teams from the mining school. We understand that the cops had to be warned about using billies, while broken bottles had to be removed from the hips of the hotel squad. In the mean- time, the broomball league is providing a lot of fun and enter- tainment.
