Cassidy, DSO ED, Commander of 16 Militia Group, at a farewell gathe- ring last Saturday. The event took the form of a __" garden party at the home of Lt Col and Mrs. Kemp at Burlington. Brig and Mrs. Cassidy of Haileybury were guests honor and the party was attended by officers of the regiment and their ladies from Orangeville, Oakville, Brampton, Port Credit, Georgetown and other com- munities affiliated with the unit. The guests included Lt Col John R. Barber of Georgetown, honorary Co- lonel of the regiment, and Major and Mrs. Robert Stock of Toronto. Following a delicious 'buffet dinner, concluding with renditions by the pipes and drums who paraded on the lawn, Col Kemp, COof the unit, addressed the guests of honor.He xremi- nisced about his longand pleasant association with Brig Cassidy, anddescrib- ed him as a "man of many achievements, both in uni - form and mufti."' In June, the Peel, Dufferin and Halton Regi - ment was transferred to 17 Group. In civilian life, Brig Cas- sidy is principal of the Haileybury High School, and is district civil defence co- ordinator. In his brief moments of leisure, he has won recognition as an artist. Further tribute was paid Brig Cassidyby Maj. R J. Honey of Brampton, pre- sident of the Mess Commit - tee, which arranged the successful outing. Maj. recalled being on active service with Brig Cassidy, serving with him him at war's end in Army Counselling service at the Toronto depot. On behalf oftheunit, Maj. Honey presented a suitably inscribed silver cigarette box to Brig Cassidy. Then the regiment represented by Major Charles Guy of Bram- pton presented an orchid to Mrs. Cassidy, expressing appreciation for the "many evenings when you must have sat home while Brig Cassidy went off to the armoury." Mrs. Cassidy thanked the Lorne Scots for their but with a~ smile, informed them that "] didn't wait home for Brig Cassidy -I joined the mi- litia myself."
